Contech ProCollar Protective Collar, Extra Large

If this came in different colors/prints, I'd give it 5 stars, but apparently plain navy blue is the only choice--not very girly, but I still love this collar. Our Chorkie (chihuahua/yorkie hybrid) can't tolerate funnel-head at all. The big, plastic cones--even the smallest see-through ones--freak her out. Anytime we had to put it on her, she'd stand like she was paralyzed and refuse to move. For a long time she wouldn't take a single step or try to lie down, or even sit; she'd just stand there afraid to budge. The tunnel vision and apparent claustrohpobia of having that cone around her head eventually made her panic, and at least twice she fell off the couch onto the hardwood floor or slammed into furniture trying to run away from the thing on her head. The point was to keep her from hurting herself, not make her hurt herself worse. We had to take it off.This summer, she scratched and chewed at mosquito bites till she bled. With funnel-head not an option, I looked for an alternative and found this. I read reviews saying the collar looks stupid, like the dog is about to jump in a lake, etc. or that their pet popped it right away. It absolutely does look like a flotation device, but that's fine by me because for us it really is a lifesaver. We even call it her life preserver, and people say she looks cute like a little lifeguard. It certainly doesn't look half as dorky as those plastic cones. Bottom line for us, though, is that the baby tolerates it with no panic fits or accidents. At first she just stood giving us that look, but once she found she could actually see the floor and what was around her, she did fine. In very little time she got used to it enough to eat, drink, and even play with her toys with it on. She's 7 lbs. and 13.5" long from base of neck to base of tail and wears the size small; she can't chew her feet, lick/chew at her backside, or scratch around her neck/head in this collar. Larger breeds probably do need a much bigger inner tube to keep them from reaching things. Ours is also a small, indoor, lap dog--a big rowdy outdoor breed might pop it or manage to work free of it. It would be great if you could invert the valve into the tube once it's inflated, but we just tuck it inside the outer cloth cover. We don't always thread her regular collar through it even though you can. Leaving it unattached lets it move back or forth a little when she turns over or lies down in different positions for sleeping. We feel better knowing she can't hurt herself or lick off her medicine, and she feels better not having to wear the big scary satellite dish of shame. I would recommend this over plastic cones any day for small breeds. Now if it just came in pink...

This is the best E-Collar ever! I would have given it 5 stars except that my MinPin wore it for about 8 wks. and constantly managed to bend enough over it to get to his rear where the problem is. He is only 5 lbs. so right on the line between sizes but I finally decided the next size larger might work better so I checked my original order to get the info and realized when looking at the illustration that I DID order a SMALL but was sent an X-tra Small. The illustration of the one I ordered shows a #2 SMALL on the tag. The tag on the one they sent me has #1 PETITE. By the time I realized their mistake he had worn it for more than the 8 wks. return period. I think if the size was correct I would give this a big 5 stars. Finding an E-collar that is comfortable for his tiny size is not easy but this collar is made very well and is light enough for his tiny body and I think he actually kind of likes wearing it! He is able to go through his doggy door easily and if he bumps into things it doesn't bother him at all. He loves to sleep under the covers with me and it's not a problem except for the small bit of exposed velcro at the end of the strap which I covered with another strip to keep it from sticking to things. When he's resting it works as a nice little pillow and he is able to lie down very comfortably especially if it is not fully inflated but left a little bit soft. The material is very good quality and not cheap plastic like some others. Eating and drinking with it on is also not a problem.I am adding info to this review. We no longer need the collar as my little guy had surgery and is recovering well. So this morning I was deflating the collar and folding it to put away and he came to me to have it put on again! I really think he kind of misses having his "pillow" with him. So I again say that this is THE BEST E-collar on the market. Just make sure the size is correct and don't over inflate it and it works better than any of the others that I've ever seen and tried.

Excellent invention, easy to put on your dog, the best way to keep your dog quiet when he had a surgery or a bound so he won't scratch or hurt himself!

Unser Kater hatte eine OP an der Haut der Schädeldecke und deswegen eine Wunde, die er sich natürlich nicht aufkratzen durfte. Mit dem Trichter, den man normalerweise vom Tierarzt bekommt, kam er überhaupt nicht zurecht. Er lief ständig gegen die Wände, blieb irgendwo hängen und hatte einen Rechtsdrall.Auch das Fressen oder Trinken wurde für ihn eine Qual, da er die Näpfe mit dem Trichter immer in der Gegend umhergeschoben hat.Mit dieser Halskrause sind die Schnurrhaare nicht blockiert wodurch die Orientierung reibungslos funktioniert.Auch das Fressen und Trinken war kein Problem mehr.Sie mag zwar nicht besonders gut riechen (das ist bei Gummiprodukten leider so üblich), aber die Hülle ist recht gut verarbeitet, so dass die Krallen nicht sofort durch kommen und wenn man den Kragen nicht bis zum Anschlag aufbläst, so dass sie prall gefüllt ist, kann die Katze damit sehr gut umgehen, auch wenn er sie natürlich trotzdem noch stört.Am Anfang sieht es zwar etwas unbequem aus wenn die Katze versucht damit zu liegen, aber sie arrangiert sich mit der Zeit damit und lernt damit umzugehen. An diesem Punkt kommt auch der Punkt mit dem nicht prall aufgeblasenen Innenring zur Geltung, denn dadurch gibt die Halskrause beim Liegen ein bisschen nach und fungiert mehr wie ein Kissen.Die Krause konnte unseren Kater wunderbar davon abhalten an der Wunde zu Kratzen oder darüber zu putzen.Dennoch haben wir sie von Zeit zu Zeit für ein paar Minuten abgenommen, damit unser Kater sich unter Aufsicht etwas am restlichen Körper putzen kann (wichtig für die Psyche der Katze!).Für mich eine deutlich bessere Alternative für unseren (bereits alten) Kater. Allerdings kann sich das von Katze zu Katze unterscheiden, denn es wird mit Sicherheit einige geben, die ihre Krallen in den Ring hauen werden um ihn loszuwerden und somit das Luftpolster zerstören können.Um einen besseren Einblick zu bekommen wie der Kragen bei einer Katze aussieht, habe ich ein Bild beigefügt.

Unser Kater Tristan liebt sein Revier und dazu gehört leider nicht nur unser Garten. Und so traf das ein, was wir immer befürchtet haben: Er war wohl mit einem anderen Katzentier nicht einer Meinung. Wir können nur vermuten, dass es zu einer Rauferei kam, die unserem Kämpfer ein tiefe Wunde hinter dem Ohr bescherte.Beim Tierarzt gab's ein Antibioticum, entzündungshemmende Spritzen usw. und - natürlich - einen Kragen, damit das Tier sich nicht kratzen kann. Nun habe ich schon erlebt, dass Katzen, die solch einen großen Plastik-Kragen umgebunden bekommen, regelrecht durchdrehen. Und - zu unserem aller Glück - haben wir bei Amazon den aufblasbaren "Pro-Collar-Halskragen" gefunden. Und - wofür wir auch dankbar waren: Eine Express-Lieferung war möglich, sodass der Halskragen schon am nächsten Tag bei uns ankam. Unsere Kater war natürlich alles andere als erfreut, als wir ihm "ProCollar" und zwei Tage Stubenarrest verpassten. Lautstark, Tag und Nacht protestierend zog er durchs Haus. Doch kratzen konnte er sich an der Wunde nicht, die prima verheilte.Wir sind mit unserem Kauf sehr zufrieden. Der "ProCollar-Halskragen" liegt jetzt, nachdem er wieder "entlüftet" wurde, gut verpackt, bereit für den nächsten Einsatz, der ja hoffentlich noch lange auf sich warten lassen wird...., aber man weiß ja nie.

Mein Kater ist Allergiker und damit seine Kratzwunden an Kinn und Hals abheilen können, hat er nun so ein ZenCollar/ProCollar um, habe jetzt das 2. hier bei Amazon bestellt, da das erste dann nun doch durch das viele Gekratze mit den Hinterpfoten irgendwo ein Löchlein im Gummring/schlauch hatte.Die Hülle um den aufblasbaren Teil ist keinesfalls kratzresistent, an einigen Stellen ist sie schon gar nicht mehr vorhanden gewesen, ich habe aber wegen der besseren Hautverträglichkeit und Hygiene dem Collar sowieso große Tennissocken übergezogen, so daß die zerfetzte Hülle nichts machte.Insgesamt ist die Verarbeitung aber eindeutig besser als bei vergleichbaren Produkten (z. B. karlie Flamingo).Die Größe S ist gut geeignet für große Katzen (Norweger, Sibirer, Coonies, Britenkater).Aus Sicht der Katze ist so ein Teil natürlich überflüssig und störend, aber sie gewöhnt sich recht schnell daran.Mein Kater ist lediglich beim großen Kratzbaum und beim eigenständigen Spielen dadurch eingeschränkt, sonst frißt und trinkt er damit, geht auf sein Klo, springt auf Möbel und seine Wandliegen etc.Im Vergleich zu einem Trichter mit Sichtfeldeinschränkung ist das hier die angenehmere Alternative, wenn denn so etwas erforderlich ist.

Bought this to elevate the head of my mega-esophagus German Shepherd. Used it only sporadically, initially, but more recently I've used it every night for about two months, so far. My dog used to regurgitate nightly, sometimes more than once. Since I've started using it every night, regardless of the dog's appearance (i.e., even if he seems well), the dog has stopped regurgitating (regurgitates only once every few nights, now), keeps his food down, is gaining weight, and breathes normally almost all the time (the weight gain is partly due to high-performance kibble, I think). I suspect that it is also reducing the threat of pneumonia related to aspiration of food, etc. I definitely recommend this item for mega-esophagus dogs.I've owned this collar since 2013. It is covered in drool every couple of days. The description said something about "easy to clean, just take the cover off and wash in the washing machine." I don't have to do that: simply put it under the tap in the bathtub (or even sink), scrub with a brush, then hang on the deck or even the shower rod to dry (less than half-a-day). The cover stays on, no need to deflate and re-inflate the collar. It looks like new after all this use.
