Vallejo Model Color 60 ml Gloss Polyurethane Varnish

Brought this for clay modelling and it works well. Leaves a shiny coat on my creations. I love this. Not thick and doesn't smell much. Covers very well. Very durable and consistent

Using it for clay crafts and gives it a really nice gloss, really good. Great value for money and dries quickly.

I wanted this to coat some decorated coaster made of wood. Unfortunately the water colour paint/ink I used was smudged by the brush so I am going to try some spray on varnish.

Arrived on time in good condition. Tested with a brush with decent results. Levels fairly well. Brush cleans well with soapy water.

Model making can be a bit tribal with people swearing by one brand or another. I mostly use Vallejo paints because they come packaged well in great dispensing bottles that avoid mess and preserve the paint or varnish. The added advantage is that being non flammable I can take them overseas when I fly to work. That being said I also use AK Interactive, Tamiya and Humbrol. Guess what? They all work. Still, my favourite is Vallejo who for me just seem to get it right. A huge range of high quality paint and varnishes of which this is another excellent one. Easy to apply either by brush or as I do with an airbrush suitably thinned using Vallejo thinners. It's water based so you can use water from the tap for this but I find that the actual thinners works a little better. Easy to clean up afterwards because its' water based and thus whatever you use to apply it can be washed out with water and dishwashing cleaner. Vallejo state that this new polyurethane varnish is tougher and UV resistant and I have no doubt that is the case. Overall a superb product.

I don't leave many reviews but after reading some that gave a poor rating, I just wanted to say that for my purposes this is brilliant. I carve animals from jelutong wood. I finish them with gesso, then after final sanding they are painted with acrylic. Leave for 24 hours, then a coat of this. Then a second coat after another 24 hours. I can't fault it. Lovely glossy finish, hard, doesn't peel, no smell, easy to clean brush. Good price too.

This is really good. I bought it to seal painted stones for the garden, they've been outside a few months now and in heavy rain, no colour fading and the stones are still just as the day I painted them.

I'm a great fan of Vallejo paints. I haven't used this one much at present but have noticed it is quite a thick paint so does need thinning to ensure a smooth flow through the air brush. It suggests on the bottle that an airbrush of needle size 0.4 should be used if sprayed undiluted, I agree with this and even then it can quickly gum the needle up if you don't keep an eye on it. It is quite challenging to clean the air brush out afterwards as basically its very difficult to see.

I have a big box of water paints but once they dry, they dry with a dull finish. This varnish makes the colours pop!
