Was expecting mediocre, but this was not the case..
After reading both the positive and negative reviews for this product, I was a somewhat cautious and proceeded to order with some trepidation. I had looked at much higher end phono pre-amps which all had pros and cons, especially with hum being a massive negative across the board. So I eventually bit the bullet and plumped for the PP400 as the price was low enough for me to swallow in case it didn’t live up to my expectations. As soon as the product arrived I hooked it up to my Technics SL1200MK2 and bridged it to my Denon M38 DAB, ensuring the 1200’s ground wire was connected. Upon connecting any hum immediately disappeared, I even turned the system up to full volume, tapping the plinth of the deck for some feedback or resonance, only to hear nothing! Suffice to say that my initial concerns were uncalled for and the sound quality was amazing. The line conversion is only a couple of decibels quieter than the CD output on my device, which I’m fine with. Bass and treble is extremely adequate and more than competes with both CD and USB sound sources. Some have said that this device lacks certain dynamics when compared to products 3-4 times more expensive, but my ears say that the PP400 sounds just fine! Of course my opinion is subjective, but I’m sure most will find this a perfectly good product. Only the purist audiophiles will find fault with this because they are listening to their hardware and not the music. Over all I am more than pleased with the PP400 and feel no desire to upgrade it to a more expensive pre amp as I know this does the job extremely well.

Nice sound at a nice price - can't fault it
Was a toss up between the Behringer and the Pro-ject phono box but at half the price I thought "can't be half as bad, surely". And I was right, the sound quality is very good. It's also plug and play simple and connects my turntable (that has no built in stage) to my PC and then back to my amp.It works, it works well and it's reasonably priced. Now I look at £200 phono amps and think "really!?", the audiophile crowd might just be being played...

Great value for money but no on/off switch
It does the job nicely enough. It's small so it doesn't clutter the place up, however, you need to keep it accessible as there's no on/off switch meaning you have to pull the power cord out when you're finished with it.Sound quality is great for the money.

Works great earth a must though.
Works great. Good price. Earth connector seems to be just that. A connector. Doesn't seem to earth component. Would be hard to with just a 2 core 12v supply. Need to connect record player to earth screw, then wire to another earth source say amp. Terrible buzzing otherwise.

Good sounding phono amplifier.
This pre-amp is of good quality both in build quality and sound quality, far better than the amp built into my Audio Technica turntable. It has an earth conection that a record turntable needs but it does nothing as it's 12 volt power supply is not earthed leading to hum at moderate volume levels. To easily fix this connect a good quality length of insulated wire to the earth pin of a spare three pin plug after removing the fuse as it is not needed. The other end of the wire connect to the earth lug on the Behringer together with the earth from the turntable. The socket the plug is plugged into does not even need to be switched on as the earth is always connected, it is not routed via the switch so it is perfectly safe.

Excellent
Works as it should, minimum hum even without being earthed. Was bought as "second hand"/"return", All components included, with a £7 saving. Would 100% recommend.

Great price
Great sound. tight sound stage using it's headphone out but using headphone amp opens it up for the money this phono pre amp is banging seems to handle say Floyd very well then ffdp has the heavy sound with ease money well spent update left channel just died baaa but filled the gap

Does an excellent job
I needed a relatively inexpensive phono preamp for my occasional vinyl listening and this Behringer had good reviews. Good to say it does what it should, easy to set up and worked immediately. Great sound through a unit that doesn't cost the earth. Recommended if you're after a cheap solution for your turntable without sacrificing too much quality. Obviously the more you pay then the better the results but for me this is ideal.
