This is a great tool if you're working with buttercream on a double barrel cake (i.e. extra tall). The blade is very narrow, which means it won't hold much icing or ganache as you scrape the sides of the cake. You'll do a few inches, then clean it off. The cleaning is also annoying because of the center grip - you can't scrap it cleanly against the side of your bowl. It would've been better if Wilton put the grip at one end instead of down the center. I don't like using it for ganache because the narrow blade loads up fast as you're scraping, and it messes the ganache on the cake instead of cleaning it; a problem when you're working on a cold cake and your ganache is setting quickly.

Great product, it helps make easy work of icing and smoothing off your cake.

When considering buying this smoother I thought it would be easier to use with the finger grip in middle. However it is a little bit more tricky to use than I expected. It is also slightly bigger than I thought. I am hoping with time and practice I will be able to accomplish a smoother finish than on my first attempt.
