What size are the screws provided to screw into the speaker?

Cannot remember the size, (possibly M4), I had to use the next size up and open up the screw holes with a twist drill. It was all very easy.

Can they be used for DVD surround speakers

Yes I have a Sony n5200 blue ray surround sound system,I fixed the brackets to the wall and mounted my front and rear speakersOnce you have fixed the brackets to the wall,they can be adjusted youcan move the bracket arm up or down or adjust the angle to the rightor left, when they are are in the right position you tighten a screw tolock them in place , they are well made and do a good job Regards Mr Drew Wisdom

Can the brackets be reliably locked in position? E.g. Horizontal, angled down? Thanks

horizontally they can be definitely locked in desired position. now about the angle up or down, it depends on the weight of your speaker. with mine I had to locked it on a different position and let the weight of the speaker weight it down a few degrees. if your speakers are more than 2-3 kg don't bother buying those brackets.
