Fantastic value for money
This is fantastic value if you need a clamp meter. The 1 mA resolution and the ability to measure DC current are two huge achievements in a meter at this price. Accuracy is about ±10 mA, which should be fine for many purposes; if you need 0.1 mA resolution and higher accuracy it's the UT211B at around £90.It measures voltage, resistance, continuity and capacitance too. These are all handy, but an ordinary multimeter would be a better choice unless you specifically need to measure current without breaking the circuit. The non-contact voltage detector (NCV) is very sensitive. It's not much use for finding one live wire in a pair – for that you'd be better off with a "volt-stick" device. On the other hand, it's pretty good at tracking down cable routes behind plasterboard, so it's useful for DIY.Build quality is very good for the price. The supplied leads are reasonably flexible and have removable tip shields. The supplied case is pretty basic, but at this price I have no complaints. The whole package is very compact.Buying this prompted me to read up on safety classes for test equipment. Even though this is rated Cat III 300V, I think for Cat III work I'd buy something more expensive (i.e. the F-word). But I'm not a professional electrician, so I won't be putting its safety rating to the test.I bought it to measure my household's total standby power consumption at the main meter and compare the results with figures for individual devices measured with a plug-in type power meter. The figures are hard to reconcile because most standby loads have poor power factors, so I don't recommend it for this purpose. More useful applications would be solar installations, vehicle electrics and appliance repairs. As everyone else says, defaulting to AC when you turn it on is a pain if you're working with DC, and the backlight delay is too short. If you can program EEPROMs (beyond me!) you'll find that this meter is highly hackable, so you can uprate it to 4,000 counts and do other nice tricks.

Great for automotive use
Cracking little meter for the price. Feels good quality, nicely weighted and the supplied leads feel good. The clamp is also very sensitive and the screen also has a backlight to make it easier to read in dark places. The small form factor makes it quite good for automotive use especially when using the clamp as it can get in to tighter spaces. The clamp is obviously smaller than other meters but it'll do the big battery wires on a bus / truck and if you want to be able to measure current in, say, railway cable something tells me you won't be looking at 25 quid meters. The only niggle I can see is the lack of memory. When you select volts or amps, it always defaults to AC. So you have to press the AC/DC selector button to get DC and it doesn't remember which you chose when you select another function. A bit of a nuisance for automotive use as everything is DC.Personally, I'd prefer to see separate AC and DC selections for current and voltage on the rotary switch but then again it is a small form factor size restricts how many functions you can squeeze in there. The box also states that it comes with 2 x AAA batteries and a carry case. Mines didn't have batteries but I just went out and got a pack of 10 from the pound shop and they seem to work fine.

Good meter, poor test leads
Delivered promptly, works as expected. You have to be careful with DC current measurements as the sensor is affected by the Earth's magnentic field, so you must not move the meter after zeroing it. I bought this one because of the low current ranges: other similar meters (some more expensive) can measure higher currents but do not have the resolution to measure small currents. The test leads could be better: There are no clips or grabbers, so you have to hold the probes in place. This needs both hands and makes it difficult to hold the meter as well or to test devices where you need to operate the controls and see how the voltage at some point changes. I made some test leads with grabbers, but of course I had to spend more money for the parts. The manual refers to a VFC conversion mode, but I have been unable to find out what it does. The non-contact feature is useful for finding where cables in the wall are, but won't work if the cable is in metal conduit or covered by metal capping.

Great gadget I use it all the time to test and monitor my off grid solar system
awesome value for money compared to other clam meters.I have another clam meter which is massive and never use it since I have this one. Its small but can handle quite large cables. I use it on my off grid solar battery bank with 75mm2 cable. It also works well with DC which is what I mainly use it for and its not specified in the description. Its has an auto off function which is great because i have left it on by accident a few times now and that saves your batteries.Overall a great buy for the money. small, practical, cheap and accurate.

It comes with a great little manual
The quality of this product is at odds with the price - outstanding value. I can't really comment on the accuracy of the device, nevertheless I instinctively trust it. The device has a solid and heavy feel and this is combined with a rubberised plastic case and firm rubberised buttons. I bought it to test the power consumption of various devices and home appliances. I achieved this by making a 'cable splitter' - photos attached. It also has a Non Contact Voltage (NCV) mode, which enables it to detect the presence of mains electric when no current is flowing - a handy DIY safety function - normally the realm of a separate device. It comes with a great little manual, 2 probes and a handy carrying/storage case. Mine did NOT include 2 x AAA batteries; so if you buy this make sure you have some to hand.Really impressed with this and highly recommend it.
