Fabulous!
Does exactly what it says on the tin! Really bright, don't need the kitchen light on at night but it's steady so it doesn't bother either us or the dogs. Tidy, easy to clean & great at killing all sorts of flying beasties. Although when something big gets in it the smell of cooked wasp can be a bit much! It's very sturdy, well made and is really effective.

Great zapper, great customer service
The flies this summer have been driving my partner mad - I got fed up with her complaints about flies, so ordered this zapper. The first one we received worked brilliantly for a couple of days, but then stopped working. We contacted the seller, who sent us a replacement straight away, and sent us a return label for the broken product. The new one has been working for a few days, and is working very well. This zapper is very effective - it kills all sizes of fly, from fruit flies to bluebottles. Most of the time, flies die fairly quietly, but every now and then there is a loud crack as a fly bites the dust.

It works
It certainly works, and has done a roaring trade in a recent spell of hot weather, often with a satisfying crack as a fly is dispatched. How well the rather feeble UV tubes do when competing with daylight is difficult to assess, and I dare say the reduction of fly population in percentage terms is modest, but it is certainly effective in the evening. A very minor criticism is that the brush provided to clean the corpses off the electrodes is fiddly and could be a bit longer.

Better than cheap models
Tried the cheap Chinese versions, but they had very short cables and the bulbs blew every few hours. At 13” they were very hard to source too. This model, although more expensive, has a decent cable and much brighter bulbs rated at 5000 to 8000 hours I believe. Tried it until the flies stopped and it worked perfectly, and we have switched it off for the winter to preserve the bulbs.Unlike the cheaper versions this can also be fixed to a wall if required, although we just put it on top of our kitchen units.

Not worth it
Broke completely after less than 6 months. Hard to clean.

Good buy
I have bought three different fly zappers and this is the only one that worked effectively.

It would seem that this item is a disposable throw away machine.
This mashine XZAP30 I purchased to replace a cheaper one that lasted no more than a year because the staters for the bulbs were not replaceable. Having used an Xterminatate made machine in the past that worked well and lasted for some years I had high hopes . However the mashine arrived and had no starters visable just as the previous cheaper make. This morning I telephoned Xterminate to ask if the starters may have been hidden under the cover, and was told that the fly killers no longer have starters. The person I spoke to said the this was because if the machine had started it would cost around £40 more ( starters cost around 50p in my hardwear shop) I asked to speak to a tec person and was told none were available. I worry that the same will happen when the tubes blow on this unit after a year or so and yet again I may have to just through it away, as having tried to utilise a guarantee in the past on another product brought through Amazon after a longer time piriod of the manufactuer made it as difficult as possible for me to claim. It would seem that even some of the better makes are creating a throwaway society at the customers expense.I've had since the above three separate communications with Xterminate, two giving incorrect info as to the apparent lack of starters and why the last was an apology from the sales manager and an offer to extend my guarantee by one year. He also stated that the reason starters are no longer easily accessible is because regulations have changed and all fly killers made now have to be with LED lighting that do not need starters. So my advice is to buy one with LED,s

It seems to be a bad year for mosquitoes and horseflies
It seems to be a bad year for mosquitoes and horseflies. Our lounge has bifold doors and we like to leave them open on warm evenings. We were getting badly bitten prior to buying this. Deserves a five for effectiveness at attracting and frying biting insects. Mains lead is a little short but I can live with that as I haven’t been bitten since I started using it. It has an insect collecting tray at the bottom that retains the charred remains. I’d have given it a six if it came with a graph to plot kills per day.
