Small but mighty!
Surprised by this machine. It's lightweight, easy to assemble and operate, durable, and a good value for the money. The scarifying blade and dethatching blade (this one is already on the machine when it arrives) are easy to switch out, and the included instruction manual is simple to understand and walks you through all maintenance. Make sure you use a sturdy outdoor extension cord! This machine is corded, not battery powered. We have a medium sized lot, I was able to do the front, back, and side yards in two sessions for a total of about 1.75 hours of time. I emptied the bag about five to six times, although some people like to leave the bag off and just rake the clippings or ensure they are mulched and let nature do it's thing. Highly recommend if you're looking to save money on aeration services from a company, this machine is fairly minimal work with good results. And you get to keep the machine!! I love my fancy high powered rake :p

Works great
I have so much fun using this in my yard. Easy to use, lightweight and stores easily. Way better than manually dethatching and make my yard look better. Noise is about the sound of a vacuum and not noisey. Picks up leaves as well. Great value for the price!

Works amazing, great value
The unit came as expected and was easy to assembled. Everything worked well to thatch Bermuda grass at the first use. However, it was only used on the highest level setting. It is mostly made of plastic parts. The motor is powerful, however it is very lightweight and does not appear to be intended for heavy duty use. I gave it four stars because it feels a little fragile for long term use.The second use was amazing. I recommend the 16” WEN.

Great Machine
Worked great! Easy to assemble. Easy to change blades. Just get ready for a lot of raking. This thing kicks up so much dead grass it's amazing. By the way, the raking is much easier than if you were just to go out and take your lawn. When you rake after using the machine all the dead grass is just laying there on top of your lawn, you're not pulling it from the ground nor is it intertwined with the grass.I'm looking forward to a much improved lawn this year and this machine will be the reason.

Wow! Awsome dethatcher.
First, buy a good quality 12 gauge extension cord. My yard is pretty big and thankfully I have a 100 foot long 12 gauge extension cord. Do not use a standard outdoor extension cord since most of these are only 14 gauge. Another recommendation is to use a dedicated 20 amp outlet. If you use a 15 amp outlet, make sure that nothing else on that circuit is using electricity. I noticed a difference in the sound of the motor when I was plugged into a 20 amp outlet on its own circuit breaker verses another outlet that is on a 15 amp breaker that is shared by other outlets in the house. Now for the de-thatching. I used the scarifier blade for my front yard because it hasn't been detached in years. This machine pulled up piles of thatch while also digging a bit into the soil, which later allowed me to more efficiently seed and fertilize. I filled five large contractor bags with thatch. When I cut the grass with the grass catcher on, I barely fill half a contractor bag. As other reviewers mentioned, the catching bag is much too small; it tends to quickly fill up. I pretty much ignored the catcher and let the thatch overflow, then I followed up with a rake. I still had to stop and empty the catcher, but that really wasn't a big deal. If I had rented a de-thatcher, I would have had to rake anyway and go through the hassle of picking it up, using it and returning it. For the price, I figure I only need to use this machine three times and I will have saved money. I switched to the de-thatching attachment for my back yard. It did a decent job without digging down into the soil. I'll probably use the scarifier the next time to pull up more thatch. Another nice thing is NO EXHAUST FUMES!!!! Yes, handling the extension cord was a bit of a hassle, but once you figure out how to swing it out of the way, it's not a big deal. Just be careful you don't run over the extension cord. Aside from destroying the (expensive) cord, you may get a dangerous and bad electric shock. It's a good machine and did a much better job than the gasoline powered de-thatchers I have rented in the past. It is well worth the investment. It's relatively light weight, folds up and can be stored on a shelf, under a table or some other dry place that is out of the way.

Excellent unit
The WEN - DT1315 is excellent. Easy set up, light weight and smooth running. The bag fills up quickly, but it sure is better than having to go back over with a mower to pick up grass. If you look at the price of renting a dethatching machine from a rental company, this pays for itself after the first use. Because you are not rushed to hurry up to return. Just work at your own pace.

Does what it says
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Love this thing cuts my time in half and works like a charm. As others have mention the bag doesn't hold much but still the machine is built nicely and the motor is powerful. Fours stars for crappy bag size.
