Do I need to register this product for the warranty or is it honored by our receipt on Amazon?

No, registration is not required for warranty. Product registration is just a way for manufacturers to gather demographic data. Registration cards typically ask about your income, education, hobbies, if you own a home, a car, etc... for the purpose of harvesting personal information that companies then sell to marketers. The companies get paid for the data and your email gets flooded with spam and sales pitches. Some companies imply the registration and questions asked will validate your warranty, however as long as you have your sales receipt it will suffice should you need to file a warranty claim. NOTE: The one advantage to registering a product is that a manufacturer can notify you if a product has been recalled for safety or health issues/concerns. As far as the warranty itself is concerned Amazon is not involved. Amazon will allow you to return the product for any reason within 30 days of your original purchase. After the Amazon return window has closed any warranty issues will need to be taken up with the company you purchased the item from. Yes... your Amazon receipt will suffice for warranty purposes. That said... more important than any warranty claim is the company / seller you purchased it from. Some merchants will bend over backwards to make sure any warranty issues are addressed ... while others won't reply to your emails or even answer calls to their 800 number. Sadly, a warranty is only as good as the company that stands behind it.

What sort of distance does this cover in full sunlight outside?

Based on my experience with the Huepar, the detector can detect up to 60 ft in full sunlight between 10 am and 2 pm. Remember to activate the pulse mode button to use the detector.
