Will this kill my battery if I leave it plugged in over night or when the car is running and not in use?

There is an always-on LED inside that illuminates the USB slot (which makes it either to find it in the dark). This means this car charger will draw a small current (I measured 3.9 mA) even when it is not otherwise in use. That current is too small to harm your battery over night but it adds to all the current drawn by all the other always-on devices in your vehicle (clocks, alarms, key-less entry systems, etc.). If you are planning to not use your car for an extended period (e.g. vacation) then I would recommend to unplug the charger to remove the unnecessary draw on the battery power. However depending on your car, the 12V outlet where you plugged in the charger may only be powered while the ignition is on. In that case you can keep the charger plugged in all the time without any worry. You'll notice it if the LED inside the charger stays on or goes off when you turn off your car.
