Patternmaking for Menswear Paperback – October 22, 2013

I absolutely love this book. If you are new to pattern making I would say it might be a little harder to follow along. However if you know a good bit of sewing terms an are familiar with some rules then this is a GREAT book for any intermediate or above sewer absolutely recommend

I stumbled upon this book at the library at my fashion design school and instantly found the missing link in my book reference. I had looked in every Bookstore in San Francisco for purchase and realized hay I got amazon so I ordered. What I love about this book is it has so much reference info and pics about menswear. It gives variations of styles and ideas as well as tell you how to create them. It shows all angles of the garment making process and it builds off of that process to achieve new styles. You can find many women and children books on garment making but slim to none for men, especially like this one. You should but this book. It shows collars neckline packets varying pant accents to create new looks etc. And there are pics for each look with sloped info expressed in detail. I can't wait to get started.

Love this book, however the given measurements for each project don't work if you are a small size. I bought this to help with making patterns for myself, making the pant sloper is almost impossible if you are anything smaller than a size 34. I tried using my own personal measurements and measurements closest to me in the given size charts. Once you get to a certain step things don't add up at all. It's probably easiest to start at a bigger size and then grade the pattern down. But that in itself is A LOT of work. I ran into this problem again when attempting to make the fitted blazer sloper. I also noticed inconsistencies throughout the book where the text says a certain measurement but the provided drawings/images show something slightly different.If you are more of an average size and can get your measurements to work with the instructions this book is great. If you're skinny like myself than you're gonna have to put in quite a bit of extra work in especially in the pant department. Once you have all your base patterns perfect, the rest is pretty helpful.

You will love it. Published in 2013 in London, this is an excellent up-to-date book for anyone who wants to sew seriously for men. It takes you through the entire pattern-drafting process and contains many patterns to draft in both knits and wovens. It also covers many alteration options for a great fit. Note that the body size charts of Chinese, U.S. and European measurements on pages 32 and 33 are in centimeters not inches but are easily converted by looking at both sides of your tape measure or using a conversion chart on the internet.

Excellent patternmaking book. I wish they would have used this book at my school. So much easier to understand. I am going to finally enjoy patternmaking. Directions are clear and to the point, illustrations are excellent. This book is for anyone that has always wanted to enjoy patternmaking but was finding it confusing. I may not have to go back to school after all. It is that good!

Text provides details instructions that is easy to understand for every garment construction type, catering to the male personality.

Really amazing book, full of useful patterns and more importantly instructions to create your own. It is not the easiest book to follow if you have never done patterns before, but with patience and some common sense there is no reason why you couldn't follow it if you are new to pattern making.

Very early on in this book I realized that I will have to re-work the patterns to make sense and fit my needs. This is a great book in terms of modern design, but in the technically of it it’s just ok , at best. It shows no way how they get there measurements. It is definitely a trial and error book so if you have the patience it may be for you.

O livro apresenta peças de roupas muito originais e bonitas que dificilmente você vai ver em outros lugares. Na minha opinião este é o forte do livro: ser um inventório de ideias.As modelagens das calças ficam sensacionais (na foto mostro a bermuda que fiz seguindo as instruções do livro).As modelagens da camisa me incomodaram porque o autor não faz diferença entre a cava da frente e a das costas (são iguais para ambos, o que faz com que não fiquem lá muito confortáveis).Uma coisa que me incomodou muito no ebook foi o fato de misturarem medidas metricas e imperiais. Nos textos usam polegadas, enquanto nos diagramas usam centimetros, deixando tudo muito confuso. Algumas vezes o autor usa medidas fixas sem justificar, o que pode deixar alguns resultados estranhos havendo portanto a necessidade de adaptar por conta própria (tem que ter algum conhecimento básico de modelagem e senso crítico para usar este livro).

Esperaba patronaje más moderno e innovador y me encontré con prendas muy comunes que se pueden encontrar en libros más económicos.

This is a great book. However the Kindle copy I received was in imperial measurements and I work in metric. I would happily re-purchase if Amazon could link me to the correct version as I see other reviews complaining its in metric!!

I love this book. I waited a long time to get it because it was more money than I usually spend on a book but it was worth the wait. It is a very professional book IMO.
