No Filter: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful

Unless Hawkes, Easton or Robinson write a book about Ric Ocasek, this may be the most "under the hood" insight we ever get about his life. Even then, The Cars had a very long hiatus, corresponding largely to his time with Porizkova. The Cars were one of my favorite bands in my formative years. Ocasek was one of my primary creative heroes as I got older and I faithfully purchased his solo music, as occasional as his output was. His marriage to a supermodel was, to me, basically trivia.Ocasek was not exactly a vulnerable interview subject. Genuine insights into the man behind the Wayfarers have been rare, and there will be no more. So I am very appreciative for the vignettes provided in this book.Women who made a living by trading on their appearance are going to be polarizing. I don't care about that, and I think it's weird that people have a ton of energy around the topic, but I expect that many of the reviews will reflect that fact. More interesting to me is that Porizkova is kind of a case study in how social media has transformed celebrity. Her childhood history was surprising. And, of course, no matter how many times we hear it said by various famous people, it's always a reality check to find out that they have the same insecurities, traumas, joys, and needs as everyone else. As a person of faith, it is always fascinating to me to hear how different people navigate their difficulties, and what they learn.

I really liked this book. Paulina put her heart into it and she is a great storyteller. I enjoyed it. I also liked A Model Summer that she wrote. I have a feeling it was more fact then fiction. Both books were very well written.

After reading this book I love Paulina even more! She’s real and opens herself up for strength and encouragement

A very down to earth book. I am sure Paulina can be whiney like any woman going through tragedy, loss and menopause at the same time. AND DISILLUSION. Also I would hope she would know that not ALL women feel diminished by pictures of beautiful girls who make the covers of magazines. Beauty is to be celebrated and seen more as a gift to the beholder. PS. Thanks to a magazine interview with Paulina from 1987, I discovered Russian literature!

Paulina was my favorite model in the 80s. This book was small and didn’t even take up the entire page anywhere. Not sure it was worth the price due to that, but I enjoyed reading it and don’t regret supporting her.

I usually can tell just from the size of a celebrity memoir if it’s worth reading!! This is small and it’s not about very much! Matthew Perry’s book was really good and both of Melissa Gilbert’s books were both very good! The best book from a famous model I have read was Bruce Hulce’s book and Carrie Otis’s book! A lot about the business and a lot about other famous people and models!!

The honesty and humanity in this book is a relief and wonder. Many will cluck and say — whatever she doesn’t deserve her pain— but this book is evidence that indeed she does. The gifted. The beautiful, rich, celebrity are in the end human after all. Thank goodness for all os us. Life isn’t fair after all. Don’t ask for fairness as you know not what that is. Everyone is human. Be gentle with humanity. It’s all of us and our job.

It jumped around a lot between her time in Europe and the US. She is a highly intelligent woman with a gift of good observation and a soft heart. However I was wishing she had a better editor.

It’s light on the eyes and somewhat despondent lifestyle with/without significant family. The severe deprivation experienced various people who did make an impact in places meant to boost existing.

I read it in a couple of evenings. Well written interesting stories I really enjoyed!
