I bought this when I started culinary school 2 years ago to help practice my knife cuts. I graduate this spring and this little card still holds up great. Barely any wear on the writing even though it has seen extensive use.

I bought this for my culinary class, and I can definitely see myself using it for years. this tool is so useful!! and really compact, it fits perfectly into the breast pocket of my chef's coat, as well as my pants. Plus you can cut on top of it and it won't scratch easily (if you are gentle), but just beware of whether cutting on the grid will dull your knife or not. I use shun/henckels knives, and found that out the hard way!

Saw that a fellow classmate in the culinary dept at my school had one of these. I asked her where she got it and found it after a little searching. I opted for the smaller one. It fits in my knife kit just right. I love it for practicing my knife cuts. It has helped tremendously to give me a frame of reference when I am attempting to perfect my cuts. It is sturdy not flimsy, the text on it is clear and apparently doesn't wash or rub off. The informational text is helpful too. I would definitely recommend this to any student in the culinary arts field who is serious about improving their knife cuts.

This tool has made dough prep so much easier and so much more accurate!! Lots of good info printed on the ruler too.

This is a handy tool and does what it says it will. It has a lot of information on it that may be helpful to the novice home chef, and a lot of thought went into it's design. The metal is heavy duty and doesn't bend easily.Big Caveat: The ink wiped off the first ruler that I received from Amazon. It was gradually smearing and got onto food I tried to measure. I contacted Mercer and they told me that the ink was food safe and was coming off because one batch of rulers didn't get baked at a high enough temperature to make the ink stick. (See photos). They sent me a new ruler and a free knife for my trouble.I am discounting the product one star because I believe the company should have taken the initiative to reach customers who had purchased this product through Amazon and issued a recall rather than waiting for the customers to contact them. The company that sells them - Mercer - is also the company that makes them, and that kind of vertical integration produces greater profits but also makes issuing recalls easier because Amazon could help them facilitate a recall. Great useful tool. Solid design. A bit larger and bulkier than thought, but overall a fantastic product! Loving the variety of measurements and information printed right on.

This product has really helped me get better with my cuts, they are more precise and uniform.
