After fighting with dull knives for years and only using a typical steel sharpening rod / honing steel, I decided to give this a try given the very positive reviews (and the Black Friday sale price!). I first started with a couple of paring knifes that we use to cut citrus when making drinks and which essentially wouldn't cut through a lemon or lime skin without first poking the tip through the skin first and then cutting with the blade. The first test was only slightly successful but I figured it might be just learning how to use this properly. When I used this sharpener the second time my technique clearly improved and it cut through the citrus skin without issue. For those have commented that it doesn't work or doesn't do anything to the knives, work on your technique! Today I sharpened ~20 knives in about 30 minutes and you can see from the attached photo that indeed it has a clear effect of removing metal as necessary! (Again, that is roughly 20 knives worth of metal detritus, including a half-dozen serrated knives which other sharpeners do not do.) There may be other ways to sharpen knives better, but for a nice stylish product, heavy and well built, that can quickly and easily get the job done in less than a minute, this is well worth the cost!

We have a number of high quality knives and even with good care and maintenance, they eventually need to be sharpened. It would have cost me $100 to have them sharpened and this sharpener was half that price. It was easy to use, adjusted quickly to the correct angle, and worked really well. It did an excellent job of sharpening our knives and it did so quickly. It has more than paid for itself in the first use.

My husband loves this knife sharpener. Works great and is easy to use.

My other sharpener had started to wear down a little bit because it used the ceramic sticks. So I purchased this one and it is extremely rugged and heavy but that's so that when you use it it stays in place. After three or four strokes between the scissor blades my knives come out extremely sharp. I will be able to keep this and use it for many years. It also came with a replacement set of scissor blades which means it will last me forever.

We decided to forgo the expense of continued professional knife sharpening in favor of investing in this sharpener. It does a beautiful job of sharpening our kitchen knives and it is easy to use. It is sturdy steel and well made so I expect it will last for a very long time.

I like this better than the F. Dick version. It looks nice, it’s heavy and stable and produces a quick and serviceable edge with a few strokes. This won’t replace a ceramic whetstone from Shapton, or a Tormek, but it does the job for everyday use for generic and German steel knives. It hones and sharpens (removes steel) and creates a serviceable toothy edge for everyday cooking. An indispensable tool in any kitchen that likes its knives sharp and doesn’t want to invest in a drawerful of mostly useless sharpeners!
