Nice, solid, fairly early Perry Mason!
I just love Perry Mason and this is a pretty good one from close to the beginning of the series..Gardner was still forming the Mason character and all the other supporting ones as well. The story has quite a few twists and turns but then the good Perry Mason ones always do. Characters are little too one dimensional but then Mason stories are always like that to some degree.I would rate this a 8.5 to 9.0 out of 10. One last comment - I think it's a little sad that the publisher felt it was needed to point out this book was written in a different era and that there might be some verbiage that might offend readers.

There was a reason ESG sold so many books around the world...
5-star story! 3-stars for the publisher's laziness...Erle Stanley Gardner was a consummate master of his genre and, in my opinion, his work is timeless and still appeals to today's readers. There were some elementary OCR proofing errors which made me think the publisher did not even bother to proof the OCR text. Pity... it would have been a simple one-pass proofread to catch the OCR errors.

I love these Perry Mason books, they never disappoint
This mystery has a complicated plot which necessitated me reading carefully to keep track of all the characters and all their shifting stories. Then I still had to go back and re-read some earlier plot points. The Kindle is awesome for typing in the name of some minor character, then allowing the Kindle to search for all the occurrences of that character. It really facilitates going back and catching something previously overlooked. Very entertaining.

Courtroom and Mystery Adventure Abounds with Perry Mason
Ohh yeah yet another Perry Mason novel that I have hungered for and read. I do not care I will never get tired of reading these novels even if you as the reader can predict the outcome of the case. Mr. Gardner developed a good grouping of characters for the Perry Mason novels and this is again another where you get a chance to read a well written novel dealing with mystery and court room drama.

Superb
A very good early Mason. The main clue is well hidden, and the least likely suspect theme well played. ESG is such a fine author, able to paint a character in their actions. What he does is high art, and so refreshing for a reader. A reader's only complaint is that he makes it so difficult to move on the a less skilled author.

The book is definitely five stars! The typographical errors are atrocious! Presentation should be a negative 5 stars. As I have said once before: try a human proof reader instead of relying on spell-check!

I love Perry Mason novels and prefer the earlier ones
I love Perry Mason novels and prefer the earlier ones. This book was a little hard to keep up with but I still enjoyed it thoroughly. I can't divulge too much but I would have given it 5 stars if the ending was a little more exciting.

Again we can sit back and enjoy the flow of words making the jigsaw of words to create an awesome ending.

This was a present for my Mum who has always been a massive Perry Mason fan. She told me this was an enthralling mystery that kept her on tenterhooks.
