This book teaches how to eat mindfully and gives great recipes.
This book was a delightful surprise for me! At first I thought it was written in reference to the diet one would undertake after ANY operation, but I instead learned that this book focused specifically on "the journey that bariatric surgery patients travel after this life-changing operation" to ensure maximum success after bariatric surgery. While I do not fall under this category, I still found this book to be very informative! For instance, this book emphasized how ONLY five percent (5%) of dieters successfully lose weight and maintain that weight loss, while the remaining 95% yo-yo between diets! Likewise, this book informed me of how bariatric surgery should be viewed as the BEGINNING of one solution to obesity, rather than the conclusion itself. I particularly enjoyed the book's 20:20:20 Rule of limiting one's portions by taking only 20 mouthfuls of food for a meal that is to last no more than 20 minutes, and that each mouthful must be chewed 20 times. Essentially, this book focuses on "eating mindfully." Thanks to this book's contents I'll be sure to replace chocolate milk with the more healthy choices of almond milk, rice milk, oat milk, and coconut milk; and I shall also consume more cauliflower as an alternative to rice. The numerous recipes herein sound delicious-----like those they have for LAMB TAGINE, for POLLOCK AND SHRIMP BIRYANI, and for LAMB KOFTAS WITH YOGURT AND MINT DIP. Thus, I highly recommend this book for its lovely recipes and for its wealth of information (e.g. sobering facts on the growing numbers of obesity, approaches to preventing obesity, and also educational material pertaining to adopting a healthy post-bariatric surgery diet program).

The Weight-Loss Surgery Cookbook is far more than a resource for those who've had or intend to undergo bariatric surgery, though it certainly has weight-loss surgery patients covered on all accounts. It’s a bariatric surgery patient's bible, touching on all aspects of the necessary lifestyle changes one must make when deciding to take such measures. It provides recipes, advice, shopping tips and cooking ideas to maximize on your post-surgery successes, and emphasizes on the importance of after surgery maintenance and upkeep by way of a newfound diet and portion awareness.As patients move to different food stages after surgery, the Weight-Loss Surgery Cookbook follows suit and takes you through each of 5 food stages while supplying recipes appropriate for each. The recipes come complete with nutritional analysis breakdowns and portion sizes. Heavy emphasis is also put on the importance of hydration, with specific instructions to dilute all juices and to stay entirely away from sodas or any other carbonated beverages, energy drinks, and cocktails.Suggested tools like kitchen scales and ice cube trays are quite different. Exercise techniques and tips like purchasing a pedometer or taking the stairs as much as possible might seem like obvious regimens, but we could all benefit from implementing more physical activity into our everyday routines. The various tips provided are so helpful that even individuals who haven't undergone bariatric surgery can certainly benefit from adopting a few if not all of the practices into their lives as well.

Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook
It was Mahatma Gandhi who said we should drink our food and chew our drink. Wise words toward living a healthy life. But nowhere is it more important to practice this than after bariatric (weight loss) surgery. 'Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook,' published by Shasta Press is a comprehensive and well written book on the proper gradient for bariatric patients on what and how to eat after surgery and for the rest of one's life. It's full of recipes that encompass the 5 clearly defined stages of eating after bariatric surgery. The stages go under the headings; 1.) Clear Liquids 2.) Full Liquids 3.) Pureed Foods 4.) Soft Foods 5.) Eating Well For Life. Interestingly, most the recipes in the book are appetizing. All are healthy. And while some of the requirements would be restrictive to those who haven't had weight loss surgery, such as no carbonated drinks, strict attention to low fat and low sugar foods and drinks, for the bariatric patient, the benefits far outweigh diet restrictions. The book explains how for some who've tried all the other solutions to obesity, bariatric surgery may the only solution. And the book takes good care to answer the questions and health concerns that invariably come up once the decision for surgery is made. If you're planning to make the huge step to getting weight loss surgery, you should have this book to refer to constantly.

Very Solid Cookbook
This is a pretty decent cookbook. I think the content is very well organized within it. Sections are broken down into what stage you are during the bariatric process. Prior to listing the recipes are few helpful notes and suggestions/explanations. Each recipe includes information regarding the suitability of the ingredients (vegan, vegetarian, suitable for freezing), so some people might find that helpful. Personally, the recipes included are quite a bit out of my comfort zone but if you are comfortable in the kitchen and looking to broaden your interests, this would definitely be for you! I may try a few of the recipes though and I would like to note that the ingredient lists aren't very lengthy and most contain generic things you might have readily available anyway, which is a great bonus! Even excluding the recipe section, this book is definitely worth the informational aspect of you are considering or in the process of bariatric surgery!

Very helpful at the beggining of your new life
Great help for when you first start the journey on the road to your new life and new way of eating. Some nice recipes for everyone. Not just bariatric patients. I found it was helpful.
