Works Well,
I have this connected to my router, it shows up on my smart TV (not used it this was through); I mainly use this on my Synology NASwhich has PLEX running on it, it shows clearly, Plex is able to record multiple channels for free and the recorded items and live TV can be viewed outside the house / in other households over the internet. I found setting this up needed the PC/Mac to run the HDHomeRun App to be able to search for channels/Tune the box (it was already up to date so did not need a software update) everything else I have done has mainly been within Plex.I have found the Home HD app clunky and you cannot record on this unless you have a subscription to do so on their own app.I have read it can be powered through a POE switch but read that this is not advised from the maker so i have not tried this (expensive if i break it).Although expensive, it has been doing what I is intended for really well, and fairly simply and in good time (not clunky or slow).

Definitely an upgrade
So, I have been using a couple of USB tuner sticks for my Media server to give me 4 tuners, along with a signal amplifier to ameliorate signal issues and to allow me to split the feed between two devices. I had lost all the Freeview HD channels at some point though.Enter the HD Home Run. (a best buy of 2023 for me!)First minor issue was the instructions provided seem to be incorrect. They state you need to browse to my.hdhomerun.com to configure the device. This didn't work. Instead you need to browse to the device's IP (discovered from your DHCP server) or more simply, http://hdhomerun.localChannel scanning is simple and fairly quick (and doing it once in the device's web interface prevents the need for a scan in my Media server.)Second issue was I then discovered I still had no HD channels. Suffice it to say, this was a little perturbing. BUT! it would seem that the issue was, in fact, being caused by the signal amplifier as, with this removed, I now have a 100% signal strength and a full compliment of HD channels. The fact that this discreet little box of tricks has a standalone app for Firestick & Chromecast means the Freeview channels are available locally, regardless of the status of my Media server. It's also got better picture quality than my Media server, certainly on the SD channels. For now, I'm reluctant to add HDHR's recording facility as I'll continue to use my Media server for this. The HD HomeRun's app works on mobile but only on the local network (it scans the network on launch for the device) and will not work remotely which is where my Media server will work. There may be a way to use port forwarding (or VPN) and a third party video app, but that's a lot of trouble to go to when I have a Media server. In summary, the HDHR is a great device; I wish I had got one sooner.

Better to stream over WiFi than wire with coax.
It does what I needed, connects to my arial and allows up to 4 devices to stream broadcast TV over my home WiFi. I chose this rather than using an arial splitter and running 4 coax cables through walls and floorboards. The app works on phones, iPad and AppleTV or you can use a web interface. The app is a bit clunky, notably not using familiar navigations on AppleTV but it works.

Brilliant, TV on your network!
Easy to install and use. Plex (with lifetime pass) picked it up straight away and I can watch live TV and schedule recording up to a week ahead.Their android app is great allowing access to TV on your phone and tablet.A tad expensive, but on reflection, value for money.

I really liked this, but firmware update broke it
I realy liked this as a product. It was supported by all DVR software I could find and even worked with 10 year old MythTV installation. The signal level monitoring and decoding support software was great to analyse and verify the aerial connection and design.I was pleased with the performance and the architecture alloed me to decouple the TV tuning from the DVR software and hardware - enabling not only ideal tuner placement but also a choice of minim PC vs desktop, windows or Linux installation.I was looking to update my DVR system to a newer generation and future proof it.The trial and testing went well. I ran the firmware upgrade web page and this just sat there for an hour. After that, no more signals detected and it would no longer tune. This killed the idea of future proofing a system, so I had to return it. Amazon provided a full refund so I'm disappointed but still think the idea and hardware is really good.

Very expensive for what it is
Very expensive for a TV tuner that converts to a local stream. Android TV app is sluggish, android phone app is ok, works fine with Emby. I just wouldn't recommend for the price, unfortunately it's one of very few that work with Emby without going down the IPTV route so sort of pushed into a niche market corner. Very surprised China hasn't built a copy of this yet.

Works flawlessly with Plex.
I was looking for a way to use Plex's inbuilt live TV and DVR functionality (for anyone who doesn't know, Plex is a media server that you can run on most NAS devices or NVIDIA Shield). Plex states that the HDHomerun devices are compatible providing the HDHomerun device is on the same network. The setup of the device was super easy (you may need to purchase a separate Male to Male RF television cable). Simply plug the device into a network port, attach the device to the TV ariel and plug it into the mains. Within 60 seconds, you can log into the device to configure it and scan for new TV channels. If you are able, I would recommend assigning the HDHomerun device a static IP address on you home network as this ensures Plex (or other devices that can access the HDHomerun device) can always communicate with it to record or watch TV programmes on your Plex server.I thoroughly recommend this device if you wish to watch or record live TV around your home. Even without using Plex, having the ability to stream live TV to a smart TV (using a compatible app on your smart TV) is fantastic, especially if connecting the TV to an ariel is not possible. And with 4 built-in tin tuners, it gives most people enough capacity for this.
