Obstetrics and Gynecology in Chinese Medicine

This book is a astounding compendium of medical wisdom. At nearly 1000 pages of text, even before you get to the appendices and index, it is a monumental undertaking. It is very well designed - from introductory chapters about Women's Physiology and Pathology (nearly 70 pages in total), to the chapters about individual conditions and their diagnosis and treatment - the material is broken into manageable sections, historical information is given, diagnostic principles and treatment suggestions are explained, and case histories are given. Even if I'm not looking for information about a specific condition, it's a good read, as the clarity of its writing and the depth of explanations have an impact on my own approach to the medicine.One of the distinctive features of this book is that not only are individual etiologies presented (e.g. PCOS due to Dampness or Damp-Heat), but the author also includes combined patterns and discusses their characteristics and treatment strategies (e.g. PCOS due to Damp-Phlegm, Kidney-Yang deficiency and Blood Stasis). This alone puts this book in a league of its own, and is a very helpful feature. The author also discusses the case histories and Modern Chinese Literature reports in terms of their weaknesses and strengths - likewise an instructive feature.All in all, this is one of the best books on Chinese medicine I've seen, and I am pleased to have it on my shelf. It will continue to inform my practice and make me a better practitioner for decades to come.

This is a excellent book! He will give a pt prescription, but then he explains why he uses those points, which is huge.Use of extraordinary vessels is heavy. He often talks about LU7 and KI6 is my of his prescriptions. But did you know that ssome doctors , including classic books, say that the order in which these 2 points are used makes a difference, as well as the order of their removal, and that which side they are placed is different for women and men.I would highly recommend this book.

I love this TCM book and will never get rid of it. As an acupuncturist who is looking to specialize in women's health, this was a fantastic purchase. The layout is perfect and it provides enough information without going into to much detail for those whom have a grasp on the TCM concepts already. This book is great for TCM students as well as licensed practitioners. I do not recommend this book to the public as this information will not make sense to anyone who has not completed or currently going through Traditional Chinese Medical training.

A wealth of information on Gynecology and Obstetrics from a TCM point of view. I also like that he includes the western medicine perspectives, patterns, treatment principles and point prescriptions.

My instructors mother is a GYN whiz in China TCM practice, and she likes this book.It arrived on time and in good condition.

I was hesitant at first, because I like books , but when this came it was so convenient. I wish I did this with all giovanni books!

Great library addition, goes with his other 2. Always good for exacting detail. But not always practical - I feel a practitioner needs to absorb as much theory as possible & then find their own way i.e. points-prescriptions that work for them, everyone is working with/on their own Qi the patient & the practitioner.

Diagnostic Principles, suggestions on treatment, goes into case histories. Comprehensive with about 1000 pages of text. I like Giovanni Maciocia's text books, his Foundations book is very good as well.

Too expensive for this book because it’s not a college but it’s just practical know how to $200 I thought it was too expensive
