The silicone plug gets grotty and stained.
This is the exact replacement for the screw on top, but . .I would much prefer to be able to buy replacements for the small silicone plug that fits in the top and seals it.My Momma raised me to not throw away perfectly good items, so of course my impulse is to toss the old top in the junk drawer in case I need it someday. Then I remember clearing out my Momma’s junk drawer and vowing to not leave my own kids the job of cleaning out mine.So I beg y’all at Nalgene to save me and everyone else who uses these nifty water bottles from this dilemma. Please begin making the silicone plugs available. Heck, I’d pay the same price as for the whole top!

Good Lid
Good product, and glad I was able to buy a replacement part, but it is overpriced for a lid.

Works well on the right base
Great lid, but do not try buy it to match the REI kid bottles. It will not fit.

What i needed
Exactly what i needed, a way to one hand operate my nalgene without any extra fuss, love being able carry by the loop as well. Only thing i don't like is sometimes re-engaging the metal hoop lock can be a little tricky.

Very nice lid. If you need a replacement, give them a try, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost to upgrade outright.
I partially freeze my water bottles for the day over night, and every so often I accidentally leave one in there. When that happens, occasionally the bottle itself will crack, but more often than not, the threads on the lid just get shredded up and the cap bursts off, so I end up replacing a lid a month or so. when I saw that these were something like $1.50 more, I decided to give them a shot. Here's a few quick pieces of info for future buyers.Pros:-The spout is great. I always get the large mouth nalgenes because it's easier to throw lemon slices in there if I want, and it's much easier for cleaning, but the big mouth can be awkward. This is a pretty good compromise. The spout is about the size of a glass soda bottle (probably a little thinner) and very comfortable to drink out of, but removes for cleaning.-These seem way sturdier than I expected. Nalgene always makes nearly indestructible products, so I don't know why I was surprised, but something about the design seems . . .tenuous. I can assure you, it's not. This is a very substantial product. We'll see how it survives a fall if I mishandle it rock climbing, but for day to day use, I have no doubt that this would survive a fall from head height.-The lid closes with both a plastic catch/push button on the front, and a wire swing gate. This thing is not coming open by accident. My guess is that it would break before it opened in a drop.-I've hung it by a carabiner and attached it to my bike already and it doesn't seem any worse for wear. The loop is definitely handle worthy.-The closing mechanism is a little stiff to provide a solid seal, but I have absolute confidence that there won't be any leaks or drips.Cons:-This obviously adds to the height of the nalgene. It's not much, but it just so happens to be just enough to make it catch on the zipper on my messenger bag, so I'm sure I'm noticing it way more than anyone else would.-The only part on the lid I'm even slightly worried about is the push button mechanism. It seems very sturdy, but getting opened dozens of times a day every day might be rough. I will update if it ever snaps. If I haven't updated, you can assume the latch is still holding firm.Any other complaints I have are cosmetic, so I can't really hold them against the product. It would be cool if there were more colors (the bottle I needed this for was orange). I like the classic nalgene look, these look a little over-designed for my tastes. All and all, when I wind up screwing up a new lid, I'm not sure which way I'll go. It'll probably depend on how this top is holding up. I definitely won't be upgrading unless the current tops on my nalgenes get damaged. A nalgene on amazon is something like $12, parting with $7 for a lid upgrade seems a little silly to me, but if I'm replacing the lid anyways, it's probably a toss up between the classic ones and these. If you need to replace your lid anyways, check them out.

Lockable flip top is a great alternative to stock screw-on or pull-tip drinking bottle caps
I bought one of these over three years ago for the 1-liter bottle I use for work. It saw literally tens of thousands of open & close use before the little wire "double-lock" half hoop broke its mount in the base of the cap. (Serious design flaw; probably intentional - built-in obsolescence.) It still worked, but I could no longer be certain that: 1) it would stay fully closed, and 2) it would keep carbonated drinks from going prematurely flat. So, I came back here to buy a new one.I didn't care what color it was, just wanted the cheapest. (You need to click on each color. For whatever reason, they sometimes have one or more colors selling for cheaper than the others. The gray cap I got was half the price of the other color choices when I bought mine. Weird, but true. ) These flip-top caps work great and my old one certainly held up admirably to a LOT of daily use and wear & tear. Very satisfied.EDIT: This replacement cap failed in the same spot after less than 3 months! Not bothering with this style anymore. Going to try something different (and hopefully, better) :-(
