Hollywood Gomorrah

Borrowing a title from Hollywood Babylon, this memoir is oddly engaging at times but otherwise aimless, except to puff up the career of the kind of comic one would see on the old Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon at 2 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning. Did a drunken Troy Donahue really make him an offer of oral sex which he refused?. Who knows? Aldo Ray. No one remembers him. Christian Brando. Who cares? He throws out a few titillating stories or anecdotes to make good on this memoir's title. Also no sign that anyone helped in editing the book or that the author even bothered to reread his manuscript for self published book. Constantly repeats himself. You can pass on this one.

There's a kernel of value in here, as the author details the experiences of a working comic post-WW II, touring the circuit, performing all over the world, never becoming particularly famous, but somehow trudging through. He eventually achieved a small level of recognition thanks to his cable show, which was prescient in catching all sorts of celebrities after fame had technically passed, but who had loyal fan bases.But the other parts of the book, detailing his questionable sexcapades, his poor memory, his stream of consciousness observations which were neither clever nor insightful, and contradictions of what he had said pages earlier leave a badly edited hodgepodge. He was an odd little man, if you ever saw him, and the notion that all these celebrities found him sexually irresistible is, well, a stretch. Some of the stories may be true in some fashion - he did travel in these circles - but the salaciousness of a lot of it is off-putting.

I had high hopes for this book. I'm very familiar with Skip. E. Lowe, as I lived in West Hollywood for many years. Unfortunately this was more like a collection of clippings from The Enquirer and random thoughts from someone who appears to have A.D.D..There must have been no editor, because there were an endless amount of spelling errors, which made one have to reread sentences many times to figure out the meaning. I think this would have turned out better if it had been a Documentary. Either way, Skip should stick to TV where he rocks!

Hard to like this book and hard to hate it. You get the feeling this fellow (the man who wrote it) is a major star because of all the first person looks at well major stars? He might have been but who knows and at times who cares. He does offer some details about stars that you may have wondered about and he does take you along on a ride that covers many decades. That said, I did read it all and still am not sure if the money spent on it was worth it.

This was an entertaining book, but not as juicy or interesting as I hoped for in it...Maybe because the details of the celebrities were not as defined as I hoped except for Christian Brando...I am still interested in why his sister did what she did or did the author believe that Marlon died of a broken heart as many believe...I guess I will just keep reading and researching...

Full of inaccuracies and typos. The author obviously couldn't afford a proofreader. Among the inaccuracies that I counted:He states that Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher met and fell in love on the set of Butterfield 8, where they costarred (pg 6). First off, Eddie Fisher WASN'T in Butterfield 8! Secondly, Mr. Lowe must have been in a coma during the whole Liz/Debbie Reynold and Eddie Fisher debacle. They met courtesy of Mike Todd, who was a close friend of Fisher's. So close, he named his son Todd in honor of Mike Todd. He repeats this inaccuracy several times.He states that Betty Hutton went to live in a nunnery (pg 38). Also inaccurate. She went to live at a rectory.Tyrone Power and Cesar Romero were contract players at MGM (pg 233) They were not. They worked at 20th Century Fox.Then there' the bad proofreading. He'll tell a story then 40 pages later tell it again! As one previous poster said, the title is misleading. It's all about the author and supposed sex he had with people who are all dead and can't speak for themselves.This book was a real waste of money.

Wow what a page turner! The book that all of Hollywood is talking about. Skip E. Lowe provides an unflinching, behind the scenes look at the sex lives of some of hollywood's biggest stars. From Vietnam USO tours to New York's Park Savoy, the author tells all in a way that is honest, salacious and sometimes heart-wrenching. Skip E. Lowe, child actor, patriot and hero, has been everywhere, has met everyone, and is bold and unafraid in his descriptions. Forget about blind items, Skip E. Lowe tells all and names names: Brando, James Dean, Monty Clift, Troy Donahue - it's all here. If you are interested in Hollywood gossip this is the book for you. Not for the faint of heart.

This is probably one of the worst Hollywood "tell all" books out there. Worst because there is hardly anything believable in it. A typical example of a fringe area celebrity striving to feel/be important by making up stories in hopes of making himself a "someone."If you were to believe him he's had sex with every heterosexual male star in Hollywood from Marlon Brando to Troy Donahue to Aldo Ray! When you see what Skip E. Lowe actually looks like you'll find this hard to believe. The whole thing it hard to believe. Or as Skip E. would say "hard to swallow."

Don't waste your money. The book should be entitled my life in Fantasyland. Book was written after 99% of his conquests have passed away.

A bit average and not very well written. The sort of book that when you put it down you can't pick it up again !.
