Helen Levitt (Photofile)
A**Y
I love these books
I have ordered a number of these Photofile books published by Thames and Hudson, and I love them. Like the others in the series, the one on Helen Levitt is small, well produced, and inexpensive compared to most photography books. The pages are high-quality paper and the photos are nicely reproduced, spanning Levitt's career. The book begins with a bio on the photographer. After that the reader is on his or her own to turn the pages and be immersed in the work of a renowned photographer. These are not coffee table books, and they are not how-to books. The only information accompanying the photos is the dates and places they were taken. But that is why I love this and the other books. I have a compact portfolio of Helen Levitt's photographs that I can easily study and enjoy without having spent too much money. Plus they are easy to take along if I am on the move. The other volumes I've purchased are Harry Gruyaert, Ruth Orkin, William Klein, and Richard Kalvar. I'll be buying more.
