An important film
For the record: this is not a movie, it's a film. And a British film at that. I remember studying for finals and coming downstairs for a break and this being on the telly. I was so up against it that I only watched half of it and promised myself I'd buy it once I'd left University. I bring it out once in a while and enjoy the feeling.

Great fun family film.
This film was one of our families favourites. Watched every year (at least once a year) since 1967 it remains a humorous well told story set in simpler time and reflects past time relationships. Well filmed and cast. A great release from 21st century living.

U.S. but not U.K.?
Firstly, it seems bizarre that to watch this fantastic film on Blu-Ray, you have to buy it from the U.S., as it's not available in the U.K. at the present time. Thankfully, the disc is not region locked, so I was able to watch it in all of it's restored technicolor glory. Being a VCI release, I was slightly unsure about whether or not to actually buy it at first, after reading reviews for their release of "Northwest Frontier", which, although stating region free, actually isn't."Genevieve" is a fantastic little film and has never looked better. As far as sound goes, I made the mistake of selecting 5.1 on my system, which frankly, just doesn't sound right at all. I would suggest sticking with the original mono soundtrack instead.

Genevieve (1953)
A great classic film that although I have seen it a great number of times, a friend had not. I live in Rickmansworth quite close to Moor Park golf club. The club entrance is shownclearly in one of the shots of the film. Rickmansworth is about 25 miles North West of the centre of London. The film is about a London to South Coast race.... I am not sure how they could have been so far off course !!!!!

Great nostalgia, good quality but the special is missing
I agree with all the reviews that have described the film itself so very positively. This is the film that taught me for the first time to enjoy jazz, with Kay's "plumpet" playing - superb! It is also the film with the memorable question to Joyce Grenfell's hotel proprietess "Are they American?"But although the printed cover promises and boasts about the special feature of the biographies and the interview based story of Genevieve, this DVD does not have it. The cover says Special Edition and Rank Collection, the DVD itself when played shows "the Kenneth More collection". I wonder if ITV/Granada slipped up here.I hope that Amazon will follow this up for future customers, so that this review can then be removed. But even without this - the film is wonderful, and gives a very pleasant evening of comedy that is at a higher, more memorable level, than the pure slapstick that comedy of the 60's became. Hurray for this 1953 movie. Buy it by all means.

great film
I took a gamble on this USA region1 bluray after reading a number of reviews that it would in fact play on R2 players and at such a fair price it was worth a punt. Well it does play very happily on my Sony which is some years old but I would advise to make sure your firmwear is updated which can be found on the makers web site. It's a movie I am very fond of and is much brighter in bluray though I could still see some movement of film in it's frame that I thought could have been fixed in restoration but only very minor and otherwise much better than DVD copy.

Highly recommended.
As a child I saw some of this movie being made as some of it was filmed in the road where I then lived. It has been one of my favourite's ever since. The picture and sound quality on this Blu-ray version is fantastic considering the age of the film. The story concerns two rival couples with their vintage cars on the London to Brighton run and their very funny antic. This Blu-ray is region A locked and can only be played on region free players. Highly recommended.

It’s ok
Found it a little predictable and annoying at times. I love old films and was looking forward to watching this. I think it’s suited to someone who has seen it previously years ago or for an elderly person who likes cars.
