works as a charm
works as a charm. micro-usb (needed for power) sticking out the side of the item made it a tight install on rear of my desktop PC.This is the item I needed to produce HDMI from the VGA output on my HP desktop.

no hassle
It let me hook up an old laptop to the TV. You need to download the .....NOT!!! I lied. It worked immediately. This is great given that I expected tons of problems getting video drivers and such for HDMI. You just plug it in and it worked immediately. I suddenly have a new monitor for the laptop. It happens to be called a TV. Now I have been using ubuntu linux on the laptop. I just needed to go to "display" to decide how I wanted to see it. It already recognized the TV as soon as I powered up the adaptor. For me, the linux laptop needed the TV on so I could see the login prompt. That is no problem without a TV later at all. Just reboot with the bugger unplugged.Oh I suppose with TV 1 you might have the screen resolution off. Or with TV2 you have a higher resolution that leads to unused portions of the TV. That can be fixed quickly with the "display" option on linux. You see there are more than 2 TV's on Earth. It is quite possible that my experience is different from yours because YOU do not have my two TV sets. My TV's both worked fine.Steps... 0.... turn on the TV and the PC/laptop.1. plug it into the VGA port on the PC or laptop.2. plug in the 1/8 inch audio cord into the PC/laptop headphone jack, and the other end into the adaptor.3. plug one end of an HDMI cord into the adaptor, the other end into the TV.4. Power up the adaptor via the power cord from the adaptor into an open USB port on the PC or laptop. For screen resolution, look to the display options on the PC.For TV to see the PC/laptop, hit the "source" button on the TV remote. For sound, make sure the PC/laptop sound is not muted or too quiet. Make sure the TV volume is ok also.It you play some video, the screen resolution might be off such that you cannot see the start/stop buttons of the VLC Player (or windows media player, or parole player, or....etc etc). Try using "display" option on the PC/laptop. Try increasing the screen resolution for the video that goes out to the TV. No good? Do NOT maximize the video, instead you the mouse to adjust the window of the application running the video. just make it slightly less than the size of the screen.Meh... I probably talked too much. It took a lot longer to type this, than to use the adaptor.

Works Good, Used with Capture Card
The HP server that I have only has VGA, so I used this to connect it to my capture card via HDMI to record my server's screen for a video. The connector seems fine, though the screws for the VGA connector are a bit hard to unscrew due to the small space you have to unscrew it with your fingers. There is a small indent for the screw to be used with a screwdriver, though that makes no sense as there is no possible way to use a screwdriver with this as the screw is directly under the connector itself. Other than that, this seems like one of the better quality VGA adapters out there.

VGA signal to HDMI Monitor/TV
Works fine. NOTE: this is NOT an HDMI to VGA. It take a VGA signal and upscales it to HDMI. It does not do the reverse.

GOT REALLY HOT, Worked ONE time only...
VGA FROM COMPUTER to HDMI IN on monitor is what these are for, NOT HDMI as the source! So many people are saying they don't work when they are trying to go the wrong direction!!! But I DIDN'T...Connected VGA to Computer, power, HDMI to monitor. TRIED and TRIED and FINALLY, after just about pulling all my hair out, it WORKED! ... Once... The next time I tried, back to "No signal detected". Tried over and over again and can't get it to work. The adapater got VERY HOT from the first time I plugged it in! So hot, it heated the HDMI cable where it was connected to the adapter. Pretty sure this is a bad thing. Let it cool down and tried again. Still can't get it to work again.

VGA to HDMI3 monitor conversion
My 8yr old VGA computer monitor was failing. I needed this to be able to use the newer digital HDMI monitors. It plugged into the VGA port and the supplied cables & connectors were all I needed for easy "plug & play" The newAcer SH242Y G0bih 23.8" also works perfect. Glad I bought this to complete the install.

Didn't last
Was working great until the mini usb port(solder) broke internally. Would be nice if it was all one piece. Past the return date.
