A Christian on the Mount; A Treatise Concerning Meditation

A necessary read for a Christian desiring to practice biblical meditation
Thomas Watson writes clearly and succinctly concerning the necessity of mediation. He agrees that a Christian can’t truly grow without rightly meditating on the Word of God. But he finished with meditation must lead to obedience or else it is useless. I can’t recommend this book enough!

Thoughtful, penetrating, helpful book
Thomas Watson is one of the most readable and edifying of the Puritan writers. Always Christ-centered, grace-exalting, and biblically-practical, Watson aims to glorify the Lord and edify His people. This is a wonderful, thoughtful, and penetrating work; and I highly recommend it to any thoughtful Christian. Watson makes clear that in his day--and obviously in ours--very few professing Christians get alone, meditate upon the truths of Scripture, and thus grow in Christian maturity. Watson not only explains what meditation is and how to do it, he gives fifteen chapters of things on which to meditate--each is sobering, provocative, precious, and transforming. Any regenerate soul who actually does this, deeply meditating on these fifteen biblical subjects, cannot help but grow in his or her love for Christ and in maturity. Study this book as soon as you can.

Excellent book on meditation
Even though this book was written in the 1600s, the language is easier to understand than that of the King James Version of the Bible. It is fairly clear and direct, and there is very little awkward syntax. The content is excellent. The introduction differentiates between modern Christian meditation, such as that taught by John Mains, and Christian meditation as practiced from the old testament on up into the new. He distinguishes between true meditation and what we call meditation now, which is really contemplative prayer. He also gives practical tips on how and when to meditate and suggests 15 topics for meditation. It is a very practical book. Great to combine this form of meditation along with contemplative prayer, Bible reading, and Bible study to really grow in your ability to apply God's word to your life.

Excellent
Although written in the 17th century, this book has the objectivity expected today. Doctrinally sound, this book furnishes lots of practical admite and provides many Bíblia referentes. Strongly recommended.
