This does what it is supposed to do.
This does what it is supposed to do. However, it took me a few days to know that.I am using a lather, not a gel. I eased up to the right temperature setting, so the lather was not very warm the first couple of days. Then I got it too hot once. Now I have it dialed in at about as hot as I want it to be when it hits my hand. This can fits snugly into the top of the Conair, leaving no doubt about staying put. The first can I tried was a gel that was almost empty. Two or three tries to install the can into the Conair were not successful. Some reviews said the lather does not stay hot. That is true, but not the fault of Conair. I don't expect them to modify the laws of physics. Moisture evaporates rapidly from hot lather, cooling it. I prep my beard with hot water in a wash cloth before applying lather.Another feature that takes a few minutes to understand is the difference between how Conair handles gel versus lather. Lather is dispensed into and through the head after the head is hot. Gel is dispensed into the head continually and stays there until it is heated when the Conair is turned on. It is released into your hand by a button near the end of the spout after the Conair comes up to temperature. The disk-shaped control center on top is pressed down to release lather. It is clamped and stays down when you use gel.I get a closer, more comfortable shave using hot lather, but the difference is not great. My shave with gel straight from the can is satisfactory. For me, $20 was not a great risk. I figured I could return it if it did not work out (I like Amazon prime). I am keeping and using it and would buy another.

All the Piece of Junk Reviews are Accurate
I read all the Amazon “piece of junk” reviews for this product before purchasing it, but chose to put more weight on the reviews from people who had success with this hot shaving lather dispenser. That was a bad decision on my part.I had a different model Conair hot shave dispenser for 15, maybe 20 years, but it finally gave out. The old product cost somewhere between $20 and $30 when originally purchased. Apparently that model is no longer made, but Amazon still has some in stock and is selling them for $147. While the product was good, it’s not worth $147 so I opted to give Conair’s $20 model a try. That was a big mistake. This model does not work. I tried to two different cans of lather (Barbasol and Gillette Foamy) and could not get any lather to come out by pressing on the round black head on the top of the unit. I tried removing the base and just setting the shaving cream can on the sink countertop, but still no lather came out. I then removed the nozzle and still couldn’t get anything to come out. Finally, I pressed down hard with the palm of both hands and a little lather came out. This is not the way this dispenser is supposed to work. I’m an engineer and am not mechanically challenged and can get most things to work, but could not get this product to work despite carefully following the limited instructions attached to the dispenser base and having all the settings properly set.As one of the other Amazon reviewers noted, the product manufacturer apparently does not believe in employing QC in their manufacturing process. While undoubtedly some units probably work fine, mine and apparently many others (based on Amazon reviews) never worked. This product is a piece of junk and not worth the money. Do not buy it.

A Surprisingly Inexpensive Way to a Pleasurable and Smooth Shave
This inexpensive devise can make your shaving experience more enjoyable and give you a better shave. I usually shave with luxury shaving creams (Truefiitt &Hill, Geo F. Trumper and the like) and brush. There are occasions though when I don't have the time for the pleasurably laborious process of generating lather with a brush. When those circumstances arise, after experimenting with numerous brushless and canned shaving creams, I use Noxema Sensitive Skin canned shaving foam which I found to be while not at all glamorous or luxurious in presentation and scent a superior performing shaving cream that is also very inexpensive. This product can alone produce a shave that can rival some of the better known brands of luxury shaving creams. n comparison I found every highly advertised gel or "just apply the size of a dime" brushless shaving cream to be inferior and at times worthless. However favorable the performance of the Noxema applying the lather cold makes the use of it less pleasurable than it could be.The Conair system heats up the lather making using it more comfortable and helps to soften the beard. The system works flawlessly. Simply follow the instructions. Some reviewers have complained that the lather is just a bit warm, not hot. When the light indicates "ready" this is true, just wait a few moments longer and the foam will come out hot. Also first dispense a bit to remove the tepid portion. There is an automatic shutdown so don't let it warm up too long or you will need to begin again.I found the heated lather to improve the performance of a already well performing shaving cream. I highly recommend this surprisingly inexpensive product that will be a boon to your pleasurable shaving experience.
