500 Ice Creams, Sorbets & Gelatos: The Only Ice Cream Compendium You'll Ever Need (500 Series Cookbooks)

yum - lots of recipes and yummy variations.
Bought this to go with the KitchenAid ice cream maker attachment I got for my husband for xmas. There are a ton of great recipes in here. I really like that it gives you a "basic" recipe, and then afterwards several variations on that recipe. Some of the variations are common-sense (subbing one nut for another, for example), but others are creative and yummy. And the 'frozen treats' section at the end isn't a cop-out - it has some yummy recipes, too. So far, we've only made the chocolate, but it was DIVINE.Almost all the ice cream recipes seem to call for "superfine sugar," which we couldn't find. Reportedly, you can run regular sugar through a food processor (it's not as fine as confectioner's), but we don't have a food processor and our blender died. So we just broke some up with a mortar and pestle and it seemed to work well.

tons of ice cream
I can honestly say I haven't even gotten through a quarter of these recipes. Who could?? There are 500 and they all look delicious. If you did all of these, you would have to write this review from beyond the grave which I hope to not have to deal with for quite some time.In seriousness, the ones that I did try all turned out great and tasted as they were described. There are some simple recipes, some creative recipes, some easy, some hard, some more quirky and some more standard. There are ice creams, sorbets, yorurts... you get the idea.Long story short is that if you want to do the whole homemade ice cream thing, then this is probably the only guide you will ever really need unless you want to get totally crazy..

Good Little Ice Cream Encyclopedia
Just got my first ice cream maker, so I ordered this book. When I opened the package, I was kind of shocked by the size of the book! It's thick but small-about 6 by 6 inches. But I do like the wide array of recipes that it offers, including sorbets and gelatos. There are even a few cookie recipes that are great to pair with ice cream. Oh, and by the way, I have made a couple of batches of ice cream and it's awesome!!! I don't think I will ever buy store bought again!!

Inaccuracies
Lots of recipes, but there are inaccuracies as to the amount of ice cream one recipe will make - one example: the vanilla ice cream recipe on page 19 says it "Makes about 1-1/4 pints" (2-1/2 cups). How do you combine 2 cups of whole milk, 1 cup heavy cream, plus vanilla and sugar (not to mention a good bit of air in the churning process) and end up with 2-1/2 cups of ice cream? Only thing I can think of is if you "taste" it repeatedly while it's churning - just to make sure it's still good!

501 ice-cream recipes
"500 ice creams, sorbets & gelatos" is a wonderful little book featuring 500 ice-cream recipes you cam make with an ice-cream maker in your own kitchen. It features everything from old fashion French vanilla to watermelon granita. But some how, having 500 recipes don't seem to be enough, and every time I put the book down, I am left wanting more. After all, who doesn't like ice-cream?

Excellent book for those that love ice cream, ices and sorbets
I bought this book as a gift for my children to use with their ice cream makers and also one for myself. Instructions and book with ice cream maker was good but this gives a broader range to types of ice creams, sorbets and gelatos. It also covers sherbets which instructions with ice cream maker did not. Highly recommend for those with ice cream makers that want to broaden the range of items they can make in their machines.

This book made me drool with exictment
I love all the different recipes this book has. For me this book is very useful and I can hardly wait to start trying some of these out. There is a lot of differnt variations that can be played with, and this covers much more than ice cream, there are many drinks, and frozen desserts to try and enjoy as well. A good book to have add to anyone's ice cream making desires.

So many to chose so little time HeHeHe
I try to make one of these recipes per week. There are only 2 of us and this can get pretty fattening if you do to much. But we share with neighbors and friends so we can eat a little and not worry about paying the price. Great book so many different takes on ice cream, sherbet, galoto. I love this book it's the only one you'll ever need.

Literally 'the only Ice Cream Compendium you'll ever need'
This recipe book is nice and compact but contains recipes for the advertised 500 frozen desserts. It cleverly does this by giving ten recipes for each type (classic ice cream, gelato, sorbet etc.) then providing four or five variations on each basic recipe. It also has some pretty complex desserts for anyone looking for a challenge, but is predominantly a basic cook book for anyone who wants to master ice cream. The only potential downside is that the ingredients are listed in cups rather than by weight, but don't let this minor point put you off. If you want to make ice cream, buy this book!

slightly dissapointed
I bought this book, having read other reviews that said this would be the only recipe book i would need for frozen desserts, while it gives great ideas for ice cream , there is not one recipe for frozen yoghurt, which i would prefer when i want a lighter dessert.

Just bought a ice cream maker for my Kenwood Chef and this was recommended. It is a lovely book and probably the only one you will ever need for making ice creams, sorbets and gelatos...
