Excellent
This is not a "how to write great copy..." manual (I believe that Andy Maslen has produced other books on that topic). It is, however, an excellent guide to setting up and running a freelance business - of almost any type, not just copywriting. There are so many good points in this book it is hard to single out examples. However, the need for proactive marketing and selling (and more of it than one might expect!) resonates with me after over ten years running my own business as a business coach and consultant as does the need for your own work space that is respected by other family members. There is a very good chapter on pricing (a.k.a setting fees). The writing style is lively and amusing. The interviews with other freelance copywriters offer a broader spectrum of ideas, reinforcing the main content of the book. I highly recommend this for anyone considering setting up in business as a freelance in almost any field, but in particular in copywriting.

Very useful and an inspiring reference manual you'll use repeatedly
I made the transition from journalism to copywriting after undergoing training - the writing part is straightforward but knowing how to build yourself as a copywriting business is harder. I set myself up as Connected Copy but was unsure how to market myself. Andy's book is written from solid experience and in a straightforward, honest and conversational way and it provides heaps of useful advice and support to go it alone. Should you specialise? How to charge? How to promote yourself? It answers all this and much more. Well worth the purchase - you'll refer back to it time and time again.

Great advice and fun to read
I read this book in one sitting - the tone was inspiring and the advice was really useful. If you're thinking about setting up a freelance copywriting/ writing business as a sole trader or limited company, I'd recommend buying this with The Well Fed Writer.

Another
Another brilliant book from Andy Maslen. I've read all 4 of his books and they've all been of the same brilliant standard. In this book Andy imparts his wisdom and the experience of other copywriters as he explains how you can be a successful freelance copywriter. I stand by the statement I made when reviewing one of his other books, if Andy writes it, I will read it. Thanks for a nother great book Andy!

Something for experienced writers too
I think it's fair to say this book is broadly aimed at younger/less experienced copywriters, but there's loads of good stuff for old farts like myself. His advice on charging by the job rather than the day/hour is worth the cover price alone. I don't agree with everything he says but that's life. Overall a fine book pretty much any freelance copywriter would benefit from reading.
