HENCKELS Hardwood Knife Block, Knife Storage, 11-slot

This block looks fine, fits as many knives as most kitchens need, has a small footprint, and looks perfectly durable, so it does all the basic things right. However, there is one caveat: length. While the cleaver slot at the top can hold something about 10.5" long (does anyone use cleavers that long, seriously?), the slots beneath it are almost exactly 10", and a 26 cm knife barely fits. By the bottom row, the limit's 7".Many butcher knives, carving knives, cimiters, chef's knives, and honing steels, and some bread knives, are 10" or longer. My 11" butcher knife hardly fills the cleaver slot, but it does stick out the bottom of the block, not quite far enough to jab into the underlying counter top, but enough to cut yourself if you carelessly reach under the back of the block. So my five stars is conditional on your not having or wanting any knives over 10", or a steel over 10". It would be perfect if you have, say,9"-10" steel8"-10" cook's knife9" bread knife5" utility knife3.5" paring knifeThat's a good minimalist set, and they work in this block. Add any cleaver and shears, and you still have two medium-sized slots left for boning knives, filet knives, or whatever. While this block couldn't accomodate all of my knives, I liked it enough to buy another, and put together a set like I described above, as a gift.So to sum up, it's 5 stars if you buy your knives to fit it, or if you're lucky enough that yours just happen to. I'd have liked it better were it an inch longer, and the cleaver slot at the bottom instead of the top, but at the price, I can't complain.

I purchased knives without a block. Looking for a good size, not so big but had enough variables of slots for at least 8 normal to full size knives. Quality is excellent size fits nicely under cabinet so you can pull out and store knives without moving the block. Good value, works perfectly.

I wanted to replace my original block for my Henkels knives, including scissors and steel with a few additions including a Santoku. Most blocks sold in stores cannot handle the size of a Santoku knife. This block fit the bill perfectly accommodating all my knives! Also, I found both the slots and finish of this block far surpasses my original Henckels block that came with my set in terms of quality and stability! I am very happy I chose this block, not only because it is the same brand as the knives, but it is an excellent value for the quality of the block. Also, the shade seems to blend well with all kitchen settings.

Very nice knife block; the wood is nice and smooth and feels sturdy. I bought this to accommodate a 25+ year old set of Henckles knives that were given to me without a block. I was concerned about the size of the slots but everything fits well. I don't have a cleaver, but the cleaver slot worked well for the large chef's knife. In case you are wondering, the small slot in front is for the scissors. My largest knives are 8 inches long and about 2 inches wide. My set has a large fork and it fits no problem in the slots.

i bought this after I opened a kitchen drawer and realized all these sharp knives just losely thrown in there was an hazard. So what better way to organize the ouch drawer into the safety drawer and make my counter come to life with rich wood grain? This thing. Let me tell you this thing is well built. This knife block is solid. You could park a 18 wheeler on a hill and chock the wheel and the truck or the knives wouldn't move an inch. My knives are now organized and are protected and my kitchen looks great!
