Quality handle set, but complicated with poor installation instructions
This is a great-quality and good-looking handle set, but it is complicated to install and the instructions have some poor qualities. I am giving this product only 4 stars because the instructions need improvement. Other reviewers had the same installation experience. Read the instructions very carefully, follow each step by both reading and looking at the pictures, and look at the orientation of each part in the picture before assembling. If needed, use a magnifying glass to look at the orientation of the part in the picture. Also, ensure you attach the latch face plate to the latch body with its twist connection before screwing the latch to the door... this step is not included in the instructions. Failure to do this step will cause the latch to not work properly. I have installed the same or very similar Baldwin handle sets previously, but installation of this first handle set took me about 5 hours because I encountered 3 significant installation hurdles that can be avoided by following the above advice.

Fantastic!
This is a solid door lever. I since learned I could have bought it elsewhere for closer to sixty but that's on me. I like that it's travel is short so when you are pushing down on the lever, your hand doesn't slide off the lever before the door goes forward. I like that it unlocks either when you push down on the lever from the inside or just closing the door. In other words, you can't lock yourself out.It is a fully reversible lever but it isn't clear from the instructions. To reverse it, you have to take the plastic part off that you put on in step one and screw the locking pin in there after the lever is installed. It looks great! It works great!

Baldwin lock sets are the best! Their finish stays looking new for more than 25 years.
I purchased two more door levers and dead bolts for 2 new storm/screen doors, I bought the lever and dead bolt to match my exterior entry doors that were installed in 1994. These look like they are the same quality. Hopefully, they will look as nice as all the older Baldwin hardware I have purchased in the past.

Installation Advice
It's a solid and substantial handle set. However, the instructions need improvement. For example, the handle sets are "reversible," ie, can be used for right and left handed operation, but there is no mention in the instructions as to how to reverse the mechanism. After installing and uninstalling several times, I contacted Baldwin's support (1.877.7853), and after "Tracy" consulted w/a couple of their techs, she advised me to install the mechanism w/the 3/8", 3/4" facing up, then pull out on the front of the latch, which apparently reverses the latches "handedness". I'm about to install a passage set, and it looks more straight forward than this privacy latch.

Replacing my sloppy big-box handles - amazing difference!
Wow. I just installed it as a retrofit for my old worn out loose handle. I had the typical one that you buy at the local hardware store. Actually I had the nicest one they sell. This Baldwin handle is completely different in every way. Exactly as described in the reviews - actually, even better. This fit right in my old holes on my thin door.Unlike the old sloppy loose handles, this is tight like you would expect a door handle to be. The interior of the lock and the handles are a much better quality than anything they sell at that huge store down the street. The amount of turn they require to open the door is much less. It seems like 1/4 turn of the handle is all you need. Something to get use to. I only ordered one of these in case It didnt work or feel right or whatever but the install was easy and now my other handles in the house feel horrible. I'm going to oder 2 more of these right away.
