James Martin: Essential Writings (Modern Spiritual Masters)

So much wisdom in this wonderful book by one of my most favorite spiritual writers! All of Fr. Martin's books come so highly recommended. The beauty of this book is being able to just pick it up and read a selection at a time, thus giving one something to really think about or meditate upon. Get a copy for yourself, give it as gifts to your family and friends, share it. That good! (I also highly recommend ALL of Fr. Martin's books! Truly!)

Father Jim Martin has had a profound impact on my spiritual life. His humility, humor, faith, love, and especially mercy and compassion towards the "least of these," are inspiring and admonishing. Martin gets much criticism from many in the Church for being "liberal," reading these works you'll see that Fr Martin is criticized because he, like Pope Francis and many of the saints, has started to act and talk a lot like Jesus Himself-with mercy at all times. At last, all of Fr Jim Martin's essential writings in one place! These were great selections, organized by theme. So, it will be a good reference for me when I'm looking for a particular passage. Fr Jim's writing is highly accessible and practical. It is a helpful resource for a spiritual seeker, no matter where you are in your relationship with God. Reading these excerpts will help you know in which order to buy his books!

This is a thoroughly enjoyable enjoyable book. Father Martin is a very talented writer knows how to capture the readers interest and covers a variety of subjects. I highly recommend this book and as well as the other books that Father Martin has done.

I have read many of the books and articles from which these excerpts were taken, but I am finding new and deeper insights due to the organization and the introductory material included in this book. A wonderful exploration of key themes of spirituality, explored as only Father Martin can!

Excellent book. Lots of common sense. I am starting to read all of his books once I finished Jesus, A Pilgrimage.

Father Martin's books are all highly readable and insightful, especially for Catholic Christians. I highly recommend this book, along with Jesus, A Pilgrimage and My Life with the Saints.

An excellent compilation of many of Father Jim's great works . I purchased it for this years Lenten reading and it was a perfect choice.

I thoroughly enjoy all of James Martin’s writings and this was no exception. I find his work although not heavy contain a good deal of information. I think his work deserves everyone’s attention.
