Sonic Mania: Collector's Edition - PlayStation 4

I am a grown a** woman with grown a** responsibilities. This, however, didn't stop me from screaming like a little girl when i received the package and saw that Sonic Mania Collector's Edition box inside. The very first game i got when i was a kid was Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Genesis. The day I received that game remains one of my fondest and most cherished childhood memories. So, despite my negative thoughts about a few of the sonic games that have since been released, I still have a real soft spot for that little blue hedgehog. Anyway, I opened the box, saw the statue, cartridge, and card very nearly packaged. And I screamed again. The statue is not only a nice size but I really loved the design of it. It looks like Sonic is standing on top of a REAL genesis. It looks really cool and the pictures didn't do it justice. It requires 2 AA batteries to play that iconic "SEGAAAA" sound and i am kind of put off by the fact that you have to open it and wire it yourself to get the LED light working on the statue. But it's still a very cool collector's item and worth all the joyous screaming I'd done up to that point. And what good is a Genesis without a game cartridge? This cartridge is really cool because it looks like a regular old school Sega cartridge but when you slide out the bottom of it, it reveals a shiny golden ring, akin to the ones sonic collects in his games. These two items combined made for a clever and rather nice decorative addition to my gaming set up at home. There was also a metallic card in the package too but tbh I didn't care about that. It's just a metallic card, nothing more, nothing less. Now, it's time to talk about the game itself! My only real issue is that I am a little disappointed that the collector's edition didn't come with a physical copy of the game. However, the digital game didn't take up a lot of space on my system and the download time was quick. Of course, the game features revamped, old sonic levels as well as new ones. I have REALLY enjoyed the game play so far. This Game did such a good job combining beloved elements of older sonic games (including ones that weren't actual "sonic the hedgehog" games like Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine...BTW I also screamed when I got to that part of the game because I loved that game when I was a kid and was geeked that Sega was detailed enough to include something like that in this game). The great thing about Sonic Mania, in my opinion, is that it feels familiar but there are new elements that make this a fresh experience. I also thought the soundtrack was very well done. As a kid, one of my favorite things about sonic games was the music and this game is no exception for me. The new level themes are good and uphold a lot of that 90's Sonic flair. The old themes are slightly remixed but not so little that it feels boring and not so much that my favorite songs were unrecognizable. I will say that I don't appreciate that underwater timer music in the chemical plant zone still being exactly the same. That music stresses me out. STILL. Over 20 years later. Y'all could've kept that one. I'm kidding but not really. Overall, this collector's edition hits all cylinders with its fast and fun game play, giving the familiarity of my favorite sonic games but new elements and levels that make the game feel fresh. I really love this and the pros definitely outweigh the few cons. Sega really did a great job with this. I'm very happy with it.

This will be a review of the physical merch for now. Will update with gameplay later.Gotta say this big box is worth it. I really love Sonic and have been anticipating this game since it was announced. I played for a bit at a friend's house the other day and was not disappointed so can't wait to start my own game.The box comes doubled up for security but my box corner is damaged (its been a quest to just retrieve my package so not sure who to blame). The outer box is just a copy of the inner, sturdier box, which opens at the front for you to look at your new figure and everything else. The game code is printed on paper (I thought it would be printed on the tin card but it's not. The tin card is nice, though, like a fancy credit card) and everything else is plastic. The cartridge containing the ring brings back memories. I mean, I still have my Genesis but it's packed away. The ring is really nice too, made of metal and perfectly replicated. The figure is massive (when I picked up my package from the post office, I actually couldn't believe how large the box was) but is made of lightweight plastic, probably to save on production costs. It also has that good nostalgia factor but I thought it would be well-made (better made?) so that's why I'm glad I was able to get the Prime discounted price. I don't think I would personally pay $70 for this. The nose of my figure is also a little dirty but seems to come off with rubbing so that should be fine. The base is hollow and he is a good shade of blue but not quite that deep dark blue on the box, so he looks a little more old school because of that.All in all, this is definitely worthwhile for long time fans and anybody who wants to really commemorate Sonic the Hedgehog and his humble Sega roots.

Finally my sonic mania collectors edition came today.... even though it should have come MUCH EARLIER.So apparently when I pre-ordered sonic mania collectors edition back in March... I still got it 2 Days AFTER the release of the game. And not even that.... when I looked over my orders it showed that it was delivered to my house.... But when I went outside nothing was there. The possibly of my packages being stolen is 0% because of my dog who always barks whatever is near outside the house... that's usually how I know the mailman comes... And not to mention my mother was awake during the supposed delivery. Seeing as there was no way my package was stolen, I contacted and complained to amazon about this..... they said they were going to send me a replacement copy of the collections edition but that one too, never came. So I had to complain to amazon yet again to what is this nonsense. They eventually sent me a free copy of the collections edition with one day shipping and a free month of amazon prime. Finally I get my package today, whoever that last carrier was screwed up big time.... somewhere out there on someone's house they got both sonic mania collectors editions. What's worse is that no one came up to my door and said "hey this was sent to us by mistake". Nope they had plenty of time to do that and they never did, whoever they are. I hope they enjoy those two illegal copies of my collectors edition because they are basically stealing it.So enough about that. Since I finally have this bad boy I can finally review it.This box is huge..... I mean I knew the statue of sonic was going to be a good size, but not that big!The sonic mania statue says "Sega" like the old Sega genesis consoles. But a fair bit of warning. It requires 2 AA batteries, the collections edition does NOT include any batteries. No big deal, just by your own.Then we have this love Sega cartridges decoration with inside it, a gold ring from sonic (even though it's just a metal ring covered with fake gold than you can easily do in home depot) Its still great.Silly me, I thought the metallic card was magnetic, but all it is really is just a simple mental card... similar to those art cards you get in various collectors editions but in metal.And last but not least is the code for the game, which is a 5 out of 5 btw.Great game, fantastic collections edition, horrible shipping though.

Servizio Amazon perfetto come al solito, meno quello del venditore che viste anche altre recensioni non menziona che il codice download è scaduto. La statua li vale tutti i soldi spesi però un po'più di serietà anche nel prezzo nel caso ,sarebbe stata apprezzata per non aver brutte sorprese come queste.

La caja es enorme, llego aun sellada, al principio pensaba que la figura de sonic seria como los amibos, pero despues lei que la base era del tamaño de la consola, esta muy bien hecha, a pesar de que no fui super fan de sonic en sus dias de rivalidad con Mario, me dieron ganas de agregarla a la coleccion variada, para hacerle compañia a Nathan Drake, Kratos y Jill Valentine, por mil que pague estoy mas que satisfecho solo con los extras, aun no he probado el juego

Amazing game! It's like playing Sonic 3 for the first time with bits from Sonic 1, 2, & CD. Play through the classic levels and think you know what's going to happen and then a completely new gameplay mechanic or boss will pop up and throw you off. Everything is set up so it plays almost exactly like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which is definitely a good thing. Oil Ocean Zone with a fire shield is just flaming awesomeness. The two most fun special stages from the old ones Blue Sphere and the UFO chasing from CD are back, but with some new layouts and changes. There are fantastic fan service parts like a boss that is actually a level of Mean Bean Machine and a boss that is just like a boss from Sonic 3 but with you switching places with Eggman. There's some new levels like: Studiopolis, Press Garden, and Mirage Saloon that feel just like they belong in the old games. In terms of Collector's Edition stuff the statue is awesome, the card is shiny and durable, and the game cartridge and ring are great too. Overall this game is amazing!

Versione Playstation 4 comprata a novembre 2019 con il download code scaduto ad agosto 2019. La scatola è leggermente danneggiata.

I have no words. I'm drooling I'm in love with this game so much. The collectibles that came with are great too. Especially the Sonic statue on top of the larger than life size mega drive. Flip the switch and you get the "SEGA" sound. So great.
