I Am Ruby Bridges

OK so here's my take on the book. I purchased it for my neighbors' child who is in the third grade. It's an important story and I saw it listed on the best children's books of 2022. After I received the book and read it, I had mixed reactions to it. I don't have children so it's hard for me to rate a book as to how easy it is for a child to read. I thought the subject matter and new vocabulary terms for some students was appropriate for the grade level but the ease of reading I would rate it as "easy" for that same grade level. So some folks may say it belongs at a lower grade level but in my opinion the ideas behind the book make it rated for the higher grade levels. Definitely a book that should include parents so children can discuss the subject matter in an open and honest way. A story all children should be exposed to. It's our history and we all should learn from it.

I ordered this book sight unseen and was thrilled by the writing and illustrations. My grandsons’ school librarian also ordered a copy when she was told about it. Another granddaughter will get one this Christmas. Highly recommended to appeal to and educate and inspire young children.

I bought this book for my grandchildren because I want them to know about Ruby and what life was like for her. I want them to be a part of a better world.

Lovely illustrations, truly well written.
