Dark Tower: The Long Road Home

Roland and his ka-tet: part 2.
The folks behind this project are determined to give readers the "back story" to how Roland became the man we first meet following the dark man across the desert. The first release in this series relied on the story from "Wizard and Glass", but now the authors are on their own. From this book on, there are no more tales from Stephen King's work to guide them, only hints here and there that don't add up to much, but are quite intriguing. As to the book itself, the artwork is excellent, and the dialogue is fairly true to the King style. It appears that this is going to be a long series, going from the end of this book all the way to the battle of Jericho Hill. No matter how long it takes, or how many books need to contain it, I will certainly be along for the ride!

Dark Tower Graphic Novels
Big fan of Stephen King. I was not sure about the Graphic novels but after buying the first one in the series and following up with this edition I am ready to complete the set. The graphics and artwork in these are second to none and can compete with any big name artists work. The story line follows the written works and gives so much depth to what Stephen King was seeing in his head when he wrote the Epic Gunslinger story. Hands down a great decision for all involved and I look forward to the next edition. One great addition to the hardbound graphic novel compilations like Dark Tower: The Long Road Home is they include all of the conceptual and cover art for each individual comic book released in the series. Plus the fact that Ralph Macchio had his hands in the project gives it that little cherry on top.

Not quite as good as the first one but still very engaging.
This is the 2nd book in the Dark Tower graphic novel series. There are a total of eleven books in this series. I didn’t like this book quite as much as the first book, but still really enjoyed the illustration throughout.Roland, Cuthbert, and Alain are fleeing the Big Coffin Hunters in an effort to get home in one piece. However when Roland’s mind gets taken over by the big grapefruit-like globe that they stole from the Coffin Hunters he goes on a strange metaphysical journey of sorts. Meanwhile while Roland is off in lala land the rest of the ka-tet is struggling to escape from both the Big Coffin Hunters and other strange beasts. Additionally we follow Sheemie’s story as he gets a bit lost and undergoes horrible torture to gain great power. This book was a bit more scattered than the first one. We alternate between Roland, Sheemie, and Cuthbert/Alain. While some interesting things happen in this book I missed Roland and would have liked to see more of him in this story. We do get to meet the Crimson King which was intriguing (and kind of disturbing). This almost seemed like a transitional volume; like it was setting up things for the next part of the story. However, after the first book the story in The Long Road Home seemed a bit anti-climatic.I continue to really enjoy the illustration throughout. I love colors and the detail in the illustration.Overall I enjoyed this second installment in the Dark Tower graphic novel series. The whole thing has this very fantasy post-apocalyptic western feel to it that I really enjoyed. I do think that this installment was a bit weaker than the first one. I would definitely recommend this graphic novel series to those who enjoy gritty fantasies.

I love/hate these books...
... but the hate part is only due to the fact that I can't buy them all at once so I have to wait to have enough money to get the next installment, and it eats me up.I love The Dark Tower series, and I'm loving the graphic novels. Even if King didn't directly write these, you can tell the people that work on it are doing their best to live up to everyone's expectations. The quality of the writing and illustrations is amazing, and I even learned a couple of things about ravens and crows.I'm really looking forward to the next part... and, getting a bit ahead of myself, I can't wait for the Little Sisters of Eluria...

Great addition to Dark Tower
I am a long time Dark Tower fan. These comics are a phenomenal addition to the series offering a look at the back story of Roland Deschain, between King, Joe Hill, and The Walking Dead, I am becoming an all out graphic novel/comic freak.

All the extras
Loved it. When reading the Steven King Dark Tower series, Roland has a tendency to leave out a lot of details. With these graphic novels, you get all those details: the ones Roland of Gilead leaves out of his narrations and the ones he never knew about. Leaves you sorry the books are so short and wanting more. I can only hope this graphic novels series is continued all the way to Book 7.
