Tom Hopkins Audio Sales Collection

Keeps me going every day.
So I was new in sales when I first bought this three-CD set, a little frustrated at the training I wasn't receiving through my firm, and always a student of those who seem to have made it. Tom's teachings have, in a word, been a major leg that I've stood on in my first year in the business, and this CD set is worth its weight in gold. The other leg I stood on was, plain and simple, lots of hard work. As Tom (and Ziglar before him says) "Selling is the highest paid hard work, and the lowest paid easy work" around. While the first CD - a summary of his bestselling book by the same name - was narrated in a voice that Suze Orman seems to have mimicked to mastery - from the very beginning when he describes what kinds of words we ought to use in sales, I learned things that seasoned pros only whisper in corners lest the secret get out. The first CD is the kind of CD I try to listen to once a week to make sure I don't lose sight of the fundamentals, and each and every phrase seems to impart something new each time I listen to it.The second CD was the most useful after about four months in the business - basically a primer on how to survive the myriad stresses in selling. I discovered almost immediately that there are areas of the business that will eat at you like acid unless you are a) aware of them and b) have a sense about how to handle them. While I would like to learn more at this point than the second CD provides, it always (like the first one) keeps me on track with the stresses that ruin selling careers. Truth be told, I listen to this one the most on a regular basis, as it helps remind me of the things I go through every day, and naming something always makes it less powerful. The third CD is also very good, but, as the name suggests - "Academy of Master Closing" - not necessarily something one needs to spend a lot of time on at the beginning. Nonetheless, this one is also invaluable as he describes who the professional salesperson is and how this person considers all of the subtle aspects to closing. It helped me most with my self image as I was transitioning into selling, and gave me a way of thinking about the process that was, as Tom often says, is that of a professional problem solver, not someone schlepping out product in high-pressure meetings.I put the CDs onto my MP3 player and have them playing frequently throughout the week as I go between clients, do paperwork at my desk, or just get ready for the day ahead. I would also recommend as highly Zig Ziglar's "Bisquits, Fleas, and Pump Handles", the talk he gave and eventually adapted into "See you at the Top".

Gems, great even for someone with a lot of previous sales training
I've had sales and marketing responsibilities for a good part of the last 20 years and have experienced dozens of sales training books and CDs. Nevertheless, Tom's disk 1 contained gems and was worth my time! I listened to this CD a dozen times in the car, taking about 10 pages of valuable and applicable notes! His list of rejection words helped me make several positive vocabulary changes (including reducing use of "should" and "prospect" which Tom does not explicitly mention). His demonstration of tie down questions was great, as was his classification of closing questions into a handful of categories, his comments on client guilt feelings, and his brief emphasis on orphan clients. I would have preferred less extreme vocal variety on the CD production, his speaking volume ranges from a whisper to unpleasantly loud and my hand stayed on the volume control. This vocal variety may work for Tom in live events, but does not work well on a car CD with road noise. Tom's CDs 2 and 3 were not as useful for me; for example the section on confirming appointments was very entertaining, but frankly if a potential client is at all hesitant about meeting me, I try to qualify them out and spend that time with someone else who is more motivated to do business with me. I will give Tom 5 stars for the gems on disk 1.

Excellent excellent excellent
Anyone that deals with people should listen to the master in selling Mr. Tom Hopkins over delivers. I had this set back in the early 2000 when I was a salesperson going door to door selling life insurance. Because of the implementation of these cd's I was able to have a 98% closing ratio. These cd's are not only for the salesperson but to whom ever deals with people.... That means all of us! Unless you work with computers and do not interact with humans. But before you got that job with computer you needed to talk to a human. These cd's will give you the tools and vocabulary you need to convay your message loud and clear. GET THEM!

Not less than what was expected
The book How To Master the Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins came highly recomended so I decided to get this CD to listen to while driving. It was pretty entertaining and gave me some bullet marks to reflect on. I'm not a salesperson per se, I'm a makeup artist but sales is an important element of my job. With that said the book nor the CD is directed toward people like me so It takes a little effort to distillate the applicable advice. All in all if you are someone who enjoys obtaining knowledge then this is a great buy. Since I'm not a salesperson it's impossible for me to say that the ideas presented really work but they do offer some insight into working with people, and not only dealing with rejection but turning into a good thing. Each "no" brings you closer to a "yes" so there is success even in the "no." I've listened to the CD three times and lent it to a friend. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone interested in the topic of selling.

Outline
This is more of an outline version, kind of like Cliff Notes. I would not rexommend it to anyone wanting to learn how to sell. One of the volumes on thisThis is more of an outline of these volumes. I would not recommend anyone investing in this if they are just getting into sales and want to learn the skills and techniques of selling, One of the volumes on this CD only takes Mr. Hopkins 45 minutes to go through, ,but the CD version on his website consist of 24 CD's and a lot more time than 45 minutes.cd

Good coaching - for anyone
This is more than just about sales. This is about mental toughness, integrity and being ethical with other people. If you have ever had a pushy sales person who left a bad taste in your mouth, Tom Hopkins is not that. We are all selling something. Ourselves in a job interview, a car in the want ads, a house, whatever. Tom Hopkins encourages sales people to have integrity. I like that he makes point that we cannot be a "good" sales person if we don't care about people. Tom Hopkins changed my very scewed view of being a sales person to seriously considering it as a viable option.

Not as good as his book How to master the art of selling.
I enjoyed his book how to master the art of selling, so i thought i would invest in his audio collection. However i found the first 2 cds a waste of time and didn't really get anything from them. It was only wheni got to the 3rd CD that i really got any worthwhile sales advice/ techniques. so overall i was a bit disappointed and given the choicei would just buy the 3rd CD and skip the first 2cds.

Low in content depth
The audio books are okay. After you've heard all three cds at least 3 times it gets repetitive. The content doesn't go in depth too much, it's not an audio book. These are more like prerecorded broadcasted seminars. Hence when driving it's sometimes hard to hear what the speaker is saying .
