Strong magnets to hold it in the vise. Not too soft, not too hard.

So first off, these things are only so heavy duty. They're soft, they're meant to hold things that are somewhat fragile, or that you don't want to mar with the hard jaws of your vice. They won't hold up to high heat, hammering, or cranking down on the vice with all your might. At the end of the day, they're disposable, and the harder / more you use them, the quicker you'll be needing another pair. I got this set to replace a pair that I wore out. That set only had two magnets per side (one of which had long ago fallen out) and the rubber was rather soft. The magnets are better on these and there's three per side and the rubber is harder. Since the rubber is harder it was easy to cut them down to five inches to fit my vice jaws. I used a jig saw with a fine toothed wood blade. Yes, I'm picky that way. To sum up, so far I like these better - YMMV.

Used them a few times so far but if you breath on them they fall off the vice. If the magnets were 50% stronger these would be the cats meow. All in all, I dont regret the purchase, just have to work around the magnet issue.

Exactly what I was hoping for. I use it for clamping my wooden stock rifles for cleaning and maintenance. It holds firm without damaging the wood. They are a bit harder material than I expected so I tested on a softer piece of scrap pine which it did not dent with moderate clamping force. Also unlike other alternatives, the magnets on this set are extremely strong and will not be easily dislodged from the vice.

I purchased this to remove a flash hider from my AR15. I put it through some tortures with severe clamping in several different setups and it worked well. The fact that it has magnets to help hold it onto the vice is very convenient. I noticed no markings on my barrel from the jaws. I had to heat my barrel and when i placed the hot barrel in the jaws I noticed no melting. Unfortunately I could not get these to grip the barrel well enough to accomplish my task. I ended up removing the hand-guard and placing the regular metal vice jaws on the hidden part of the barrel.I can predict many more uses for these soft jaws in the future. I recommend them.

On the first time I installed the non-marring jaws to test for fit, one of the magnets fell out on removing them...the first time...I reinstalled that magnet using super glue and check the others, which appeared to be ok.A simple tool with a silly fault was surprising.I am sure the jaws will serve well over time.
