Spring-Loaded Tapping Guide for Drill Presses & Mills

I bought this to use on 4-40 taps and was hoping it was like the Fisher brand I had borrowed at work which worked great. This unit has way too much spring force for what I needed and was rusty on the inside which made it stick when I used it. It could be repaired with some emery cloth or scotch brite to remove the rust and a light spring could be replaced and it would work ok but the two mating surfaces were still a little on the rough side. I ordered a Fisher brand after trying this one and I'm only out a few bucks.

When tapping you should when ever you can use a tap guide so as to insure a straight thread in the part. I use this anytime tapping in the drill press or lathe. Simple and easy to use no shop should be without one.

This tool had more spring tension than I expected, having never used one before, but that's a good thing. It keeps the tap centered even when starting a tap in stainless steel. Good value.

This little item does the J.O.B. quite nice. It's well made, and the price is good. So, if you need one, I can recommend this one, and I've used it quite a bit. (It's reversible too.)

This spring loaded tap guide works great when tapping holes after drilling on my mill(Larger taps have center guides and for smaller taps the guide center is in the tap handle)
