A Good Year / A Walk in the Clouds

Great Couple of Movies!!
I LOVE both of these movies. I've rented A Walk In the Clouds several times and loved the story line (not to mention the beautiful Napa Valley). I didn't realize in the past how "wooden" Reeves acting was, but it seemed to jump out at me this time. Nevertheless, I respect him in his personal life and also as the character he plays in this movie. There are so many romantic and touching scenes in this movie; so many engaging personalities, that I'll watch it over and over again when I want an uplifting movie. This is a dream that comes true in the end--------The Good Year was just plain fun. Crowe is so obnoxious that everybody should hate him, but he carries it off with a certain annoying charm that just reeled me in. I so enjoyed the unabashed and unapologetic greed in this movie, mixed with his helpless love for the girl who meets him head on, that I ended up watching this movie 2 nights in a row!! I laughed both times for the sheer pleasure and fun of it. The camaraderie between the uncle and Crowe's younger self is priceless. Completely unconventional parenting that is sure to entertain. Five stars easily for both.

One out of two...
A Good Year is a very lovely story with a few delightful and clever turnabouts showing that people can change their perspective later in life. Russel Crow does not disappoint.A Walk in the Clouds, however, could have been a better story if the author could stick to reality instead of changing the vineyard patriarch's personality 180 degrees in a moment while defying some basic laws of physics and nature towards the end of the flick. Maybe he just noticed that the clock was running out and had to wrap things up in a messy hurry. The ending leaves you wondering of the director was referencing the apes from 2001 A Space Odyssey as Reeves picks up a smoldering root and waves it around to erase the family's horror and magically transform their minds from the shock of a totally unbelievable vineyard pyrotechnic show.Four stars to represent five stars for A Good Year. The last empty star is to represent A Walk In The Clouds. Toss "Clouds" and pull out one of the Matrix DVD's instead for a more realistic Keanu Reeves performance.

not that deep,
but, they are not supposed to be,very enjoyable, .. i have read that the book 'a good year', has plot twists, and that in comparison, this movie is disappointing, .. well, i have never read the book, i enjoyed crowe's acting and development, reflections, he made the movie quite believableand, who does not love cutie-boy keanu reeves, ... yes, this is not earth-shaking, but he delivers a solid performance, & wow, anthony quinn!, what a voice, makes me want to watch all of his old movies, .. maybe i should subscribe to one of the on-line movie packages!,all in all, ... cannot see anyone being disappointed with these two movies, .. and two, for such a price!,

Horrible DVD
This DVD was terrible. We could not get the video to play after the first 30 minutes. We tried starting from before we lost action/sound, tried restarting from the beginning, even followed directions for cleaning the disc. It was a waste.

Walk in the Clouds is one of our favorites. Our old copy was on VHS, so it was time to upgrade. We were happy to buy it on sale at Amazon as a double feature with a movie of Russell Crow's movies we hadn't seen. "A Good Year" was entertaining and it was fun to see R.C. with a silly sense of humor, which is so different from his usually serious roles. There was some language that I personally could do without, but the story was interesting.

Cute movie for wine lovers
This is a little cheesy and predictable as movies go, but I loved the scenery and it was a cute love story. If you collect stories or movies about wine and the culture surrounding it, this is a good movie for your collection.

2 Great Romantic Movies
Both of these movies for 1 low price. I just love both of these movies. They are very romantic, but not sickening or explicit. The plots and cast actors are the best. Buy these movies, you'll love them. They might be chick flicks, but the male charactors are not wimpy (Russell Crowe?). Keanu Reeves on "A Walk On The Cloud" is a "nice guy", but again, not a wimp. I love "A Good Year" because it had a lot of humor. Anyway, get them. You won't be sorry!

Disappointing movies
Not nearly as good as the reviews. A Good Year is spoiled by Russell Crowe. A Walk in the Clouds is spoiled by a cheesy plot.
