A concise and informative biography of a very clever man. It comes across as a balanced treatment of Turing's contributions to the Allies' efforts to break the German codes.

Very interesting story about Alan Turing which goes into great detail of his education, his obviously being a 'genius and recognised as 'different' at an early, his university life and his private life, his few good friends - male and female - and his relative shyness. Of course there is much said about Bletchley Park and his colleagues there and his work and how he 'stood - out' even among some of the cleverest people and best brains of the time. A sad end to such a promising life and he undoubtedly brought WW2 to an earlier end than it would otherwise have had. As an aside, most definitely one of the best feature programmes about him was a Television programme starring Derek Jacobi in the title role.

An excellent and easy to read recounting of AT's life and accomplishments. His contribution to cryptography and in particular to the Enigma story is undoubted but his was not an effort by a lone genius. The Cawthorne makes that clear in his book. Balanced and with facts that flesh out his struggles with the establishment and himself this book brings to life a great man. Read the book and then see the film.
