Beware - Digitally Remastered
Absolutely LEGENDARY album by Bowie. My problem with this particular pressing is that it was digitally remastered. The whole point of vinyl for me is to listen to the music in the state in which it was originally recorded. For example, there are some incredible modern orchestral recordings that we recorded digitally. These sound GREAT when heard in digital form. In the case of Hunky Dory, it was recorded on analog, and I want to hear it in analog. The digital remastering makes it sound compressed and reduces the sound stage. If you want the digitally remastered version of this recording, simply listen on the streaming service of your choice. There is ZERO point to buying this version of the recording on vinyl.

If there must be ONE classic BOWIE album, I have to give it to Hunky Dory.
If there must be one classic DAVID BOWIE album, I have to give it to Hunky Dory. All of the failed American Glam Rockers like JOBRIATH or BRETT SMILEY copied BOWIE because of this album (which is interesting but not saying all that much). This became a real seller after BOWIE actually hit with his next The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. But, Hunky Dory is better with a wonderfully direct production, all allusions intended, proving that DAVID BOWIE is, too, a great songwriter. "Life On Mars" originates here, plus there's "Oh You Pretty Things" and "Quicksand" and the LOU REED tribute "Queen Bitch". That last alone is worth the price of admission.Released in 1971, a year of many talented singer/songwriters, it was the trendsetter's record of the year. It certainly is DAVID's first GREAT album.

Nearly perfect Bowie album.
Absolutely a top 50 classic. This is one stellar album from start to finish. There isn't anything I have to say about the contents of this album. If you have never heard the album it is time to buy it.What you want to know about is the new remaster. And wow did they improve this from the older, colder renditions down in the late 90s. This sounds as good as it is going to get. Nearly perfect. The coldness and shrillness of some of the old remasters is gone, and the warmth has been restored. I don't think the album has ever sound better on vinyl or CD. They did a terrific job here. The album CD is nicely painted and the booklet is interesting. It's a top quality release that is a must buy even if you have an old CD. Bowie lives on.

From a Bowie "Newbie"
So, this is my first Bowie album. I knew one song (Changes) off this album before I purchased. I am on my 3rd listen through and I cannot wipe the smile off my face! The sound quality on this vinyl is outstanding! And I cannnot get the songs out of my head. This is as refreshing as anything I have listened to lately. Just ordered "changesonebowie" just so I can experience more! For a "newbie", I cannot recommend this album more. If on the fence, leap over. You will not be disappointed.

The CD sounds great and the music is wonderful
I’m always a bit skeptical about cds as they usually don’t sound ad good as the original vinyl. This cd is really good sounding and not too hot or overcompressed. The material is really incredible work. David on vox, Mick Ronson on guitar and Rick Wakeman on keys, just phenomenal music with amazing studio sorcery. This and Ziggy are my two favorite Bowie records and the first time I heard this record I couldn’t stop playing it. Hearing this reissue cd brought back all those old feelings of amazement. You need this CD. No, you really need this CD.

The twisted name on Garbo's eyes.
Where to begin...This grows on you over the years. It has its immediate appeal, too; but some of these songs are so personal that one blushes at the fact that you are allowed insight to this mysterious person's life. Quicksand and Bewley Brothers are my favorites. I just don't understand them at all. Cool! Lay me plate and bake me pie I'm starving for me gravy. I'll tell you all about it on the next Bardo. Andy Warhol is a scream.Truly! Is there life on Mars? Lennon's on sale again. It's not just surreal, it's super-real. Here she comes again, the same ole painted lady from the brow of the super brain. All the nightmares came today and it looks as though they're here to stay. This album charted in America before Ziggy and was critically acclaimed. The songs are about real people. One can only guess who they are. Queen Bitch is about Lou reed , so I've been told. Differrent place, different time. Gaga is almost here, but not quite. Some day she'll hit it though. With our backs on the arch, the devil may be here but he can't see thru all that, we were gone, real cool traders, kings of oblivion,we were so turned on in the mind warp pavilion. Sheer poetry. I'm still finding new things with every new listen 40 years later.

First in a brilliant trilogy of Bowie albums
This is my second favorite Bowie album after Aladdin Sane. I think it's more listenable and consistent than Ziggy Stardust, and has one of my favorite Bowie tunes, "Queen Bitch". This is where he really figured out what worked. I read where many of the vocals were first takes and if it didn't work they moved on, in such contrast to many of the overproduced rock albums of the era.

A great Album made better !
I have always considered Hunky Dory to be one of his most straightforward albums - great songs and a clean, 'untreated' sound of a great band. What particularly stands out to me is the piano on many tracks, played superbly by Rick Wakeman. I didn't necessarily expect too much from this 2015 remaster as I always thought the sound was good anyway. But I have to say this version is superb - the acoustic guitars and the aforementioned piano are so clear and defined. Stand out tracks for me in this respect are Fill Your Heart and Bewlay Brothers.Probably the best re-master I have heard. Outstanding.

One of Bowie's Best. Given The Proper Treatment.
The remasters of Bowie's studio albums since around 2015 have just been awesome; bringing a newfound wealth of colour and sound to some already legendary LPs. It also means we get to hear our favourites on glorious new 180g, for real audiophiles, and real fans. And whilst I would never claim to be an audiophile; I love Bowie. And I love Hunky Dory, for many reasons. It tells an important part of Bowie's musical career, with his music increasingly on the end of rock, and glam. Tracks like 'Queen Bitch' from this record showcase that shift; as well as proving an important tribute from Bowie to one of his favourites, The Velvet Underground.Hunky Dory is also, of course, home to to the titanic 'Changes' - reflecting on Bowie's personas even pre-Ziggy - and 'Life On Mars?' which must be one of the best songs ever put to record. It sounds simply incredible blasting from the record player. 'Oh! You Pretty Things' builds like any great anthem does, and brings in one the album's odder themes; on occultism. Oh yes.'Kooks' is one of my personal favourites, a suitably juvenile piece that crescendoes wonderfully. 'Song for Bob Dylan' showcases one of Bowie's best homages, and 'Andy Warhol' is the same - bordering on the psychopathic in its experimentalism. There's piano meets acoustic meets electric here, and it's a really phenomonal mix that pays off.Hunky Dory hits on almost every level, and whilst it is certainly beaten by its successor (at least), it's still pretty damn close. The record also feels great on vinyl; with a coated sleeve, uncoated one - as the original vinyl was housed - and replicated lyrics sheet. Awesome stuff.

Third time I’ve bought this album.
I loved this album when it first came out, it is, along with Ziggy Stardust, Bowie at his very best along with the rest of the band, with a special mention for that keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman. My original vinyl version remains pristine, my cassette tape has long since disappeared and two days ago my first CD version gave up the ghost and refused to play ! So they don’t last forever ! And so, here I am with my fourth version, the 2015 remastered version, it still sounds fantastic, it still makes me happy and I still enjoy every single track each and every time I play it.

I think this is Bowie's best.
On a personal note, my 2 favorite Bowie albums are Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory. Bowie was still trying to find his niche, but I suppose Hunky Dory is my favorite. Some gems on this album, Changes, Life on Mars, Queen Bitch, Kooks and The Bewlay Brothers. I'm sure that David Bowie fans will almost certainly have this album in their collection. Great Music, well produced, and timeless. Would highly recommend.

Five Stars
Bowie's best album as far as I'm concerned! I didn't buy this because it was remastered (I hadn't even noticed that) - I bought it because I never before had replaced my vinyl copy. It was pure JOY to hear this album booming from my speakers again and it lifted my spirits no end :-)
