We coined the term UNSMOKED to describe the unique drying method that our farmers employ, which uses warm air instead of the typical wood smoke to dry the leaves after harvest. We flash heat the herb with hot air. Then we slow-dry it with warm air. Both stages are 100% smoke-free. After drying, our yerba mate is aged for a minimum of nine months to allow the flavor to mellow. ECOTEAS sources organic, fair trade yerba mate from a 4-generation family farm in the state of Misiones in northeastern Argentina. Our family farmers are committed to ecological farming. Yerba mate naturally contains caffeine plus 2 other factors that may account for the more, balanced, enduring boost that many people experience: Theobromine, found in chocolate and theophylline found in green tea. 3 basic rules to making a perfect batch: * Moisten It First: Before you add hot water, moisten your yerba mate with cold water. * Never Boil It: Boiling water burns the herb and makes it bitter. 170 F is ideal. * 5 Minutes: Don't steep yerba mate for longer than 5 minutes. If you like a stronger cup, add more yerba mate. Special Instructions* Moisten herb with cool water before brewing.* Don't use boiling water.* Add another tea bag with each re-pour.
