I've played a lot of percussion and play lots of other instruments, but I've never played castanets before. I was pleased that with the instructions I was able to get them on my thumbs in a minute or two and immediately started sounding like I might know what I was doing. They sound great -- I would describe it as a high alto pitch. They sound like they'll cut right through the mix. There was an ever-so-slight difference in tone and pitch between the two, which is good.Note that these are made in Spain, appear to be handmade or perhaps CNC at first but hand finished. So you're not going to have something that looks like a perfect plastic piece popped straight from the mould. These are the real deal. They look great and if you look closely you can see irregularities in the shape and sanding. But they sound great, click great, and overall I'm pleased. I'll be spending a lot of time with these until I actually definitely know what I'm doing.Note: The instructions are definitely written originally in Spanish and translated into English, French, German, and Italian. The translations are...not great. I can vouch that the English and French have numerous typos and are perplexing at times due to typos or mixed up words, but I was able to eventually figure things out. Look up a YouTube video in your favorite language to learn to play castanets if you need to!(I am a Vine reviewer but I paid for these myself).

I'm so pleased with these castanets! I had ordered a pair of expensive fiberglass castanets and did not like their "cold," "flat" sound. I returned them. I'm going to order another pair of these.
