Weber's Real Grilling: Over 200 Original Recipes

Another Outstanding Effort From Weber
A few years ago, I was given Weber's Big Book of Grilling, and it proved to be a real eye opener into the quality of foods prepared by grilling. Many seem to think that grilling means burning food on an open fire, but this concept could not be further from the truth. The "Big Book" is a comprehensive study of the hows, whys and details of all aspects of grilling. As a result of having and using it, I am frequently asked to cook for friends and neighbors. Now Weber has issued this book, which is another exceptional exercise in fantastic food preparation. It contains over 200 recipes that are simple and clearly detailed. It contains detailed information on rubs, marinades and sauces. It has step bt step photos of difficult steps like de-boning a leg of lamb, or trussing a chicken, and it has photos on the final appearance of each of the recipied dishes. The instructions could not be easier to follow. When used in conjunction with the "Big Book", The grilling chef should be able to present a continuous stream of rich, intensely flavorful meals without a glitch. I cannot praise these two efforts enough.Whether you are an experienced cook, or are considering entering this very rewarding activity, you simply cannot go wrong with this book and its predecessor. You might as well order both at the same time, because if you get this book, you WILL get the other.Addendum: Since reviewing this fine book. I have become aware of a companion website. It is [...] and it is a really neat place. Author Jamie Purviance has a series of slide shows with voice accompanyment on cooking techniques and promises to expand them, as well as to add recipes there. I have never seen this approach to supplementing a book with a website, but Jamie's site is really good, and looks to get better. It is not referenced in the book, but folks who get and enjoy the book can add to that enjoyment by going to the website.Nicely done!!

Outstanding
I have 3 Weber cookbooks, and each one is exceptional. The Weber cookbook author, Jamie Purviance, really has a great sense of taste and the ability to combine interesting ingredients to make grilled food great. One thing I was wary of with these book was I thought it may be one giant advertisement for Weber grills, but that is not the case (although I must admit I am a Weber fan, all of my grills have been Webers). The focus is simply on the food, and it is done so well. Purviance seems to like Californian-style food, that is, lots of Mexican influence with spices and avacados and corn, etc. The recipes are well written and easy to follow, and are accopanied by large, full-color pictures that make you want to try every recipe.I have made many of the recipes in this book, and have yet to be disappointed. They are great for a tailgate or a backyard BBQ party, and you'll soon gladly find yourself burning through your fair share of charcoal if you get this book. Definitely recommended!

The best book on grilling I have ever seen
I found this book at my local supermarket of all places and its a jewel: every dish has a gorgeous serving photo and every recipe I have tried (== lots) has so far been a winner. Purviance goes into a good but not overly lurid technical detail about what you are and shouldn't be doing when grilling. The recipes are straightforward and keep to a fairly consistent set of staple ingredients. I have wished at times there was a bit more recipes for tri-tip in there, but overall the cuts and types of meat used are a pretty wide survey and each common cut is touched on at least once in the book. He's done the cook a favor by breaking out rubs and sauces used in some of the recipes into their own section so you can mix and match and as a result, nearly everything coming out of my kitchen in the last month has had a bit of pork rub thrown on it. Nothing bad to say about this book: I consider it as fundamental to the kitchen as "The Joy of Cooking".

Best grilling book!
I have nothing but good things to say about this book. There are tons of recipes, each one with a mouthwatering photo. None appear to be overly complicated, but look absolutely delicious. In addition, there are a few lists of general recipes for rubs and marinades, and lots of great tips. I love the author's writing style, as he just seems very down to earth and unpretentious (he also does the podcasts and video "cooking lessons" on the Weber Nation website).Another thing I really like is that there is not a lot of "fluff," but instead there is a nice balance of information and recipes. In other words, he gives you the tips and information that you really need/want to know, but doesn't wax on and on about each specific recipe. It is a very hands on, workable cookbook in addition to being very attractive and appealing. A nice combination that doesn't always happen!

Temperature
All the temperature levels for the meats are set at medium-rare. If you want a different temperature you will have to guess how much longer you will need to cook it. I was hoping there would at least be a temperature table but there isn’t.

This book changed my life
Hyperbole? You be the judge. When my wife bought this book for me over a decade ago I just wanted a way to spruce up hamburgers and steaks. Instead I got a lot more than I had bargained for, and it commenced for me a great discovery of the joys of grilling and cooking in general. Today I have made over 50 of the recipes in this book and nearly every one has been fantastic. The other day I made one of my favorites, the pork stew recipe which I make like clockwork every spring and fall. When my 15-year-old son saw what I was making he said, tongue only slightly in cheek, "When it's time for me to move out, you may not see me much, but I will be coming back every 6 months for Dad's stew." And I thought to myself, what a great compliment to Jamie Purviance, author of this book, who not only has created great recipes and instructions for preparing great food, but actually makes people's lives better and brings families together.

Great book
This is the third copy of this book I have bought. This was a gift for my son for fathers day and he loves it. I bought one of my dad and husband several years ago and they both love the book and still use regularly.
