Surprisingly good. It addresses a common annoyance with standard squares - those work perfectly most of the time, however when using them for quick guiding power tools (think circular saw) on a deeper board, there is not enough extension on the bottom to fully align the shoe - you kind of align top 2-3 inches, leave the rest hang and hope that you could guide it properly.This creates an annoying grey area:the material is too deep, so the show cannot be fully aligned, yet it is still pretty short, so going to all the trouble of using clamps and full guides feels excessiveThis tool could be used as standard square (and it is extra thick which makes guiding comfortable), but it has this hinged extension which allow me to align the entire tool shoe when needed. Needless to say - it is MUCH more precise and still hugely convenient.I observed that some reviewers complained of poor alignment or loose hinges. I cannot say - maybe they got a bad square or it got banged in transit, in which case you need to ask for replacement. But my square arrived perfectly aligned to within 0.2 degrees and having this nice solid hinge with smooth, but tight operations - as it should be. My Bosch professional circular saw and edge trimmer (the two tools I use most commonly with this one) glide past hinge without noticing it.

An excellent addition to my toolbox, cuts marking out a lot easier and quicker.

The concept is good. The execution isn't.The tool I received was manufactured to a quality that meant it was suitable for rough-cut measurements. It was no good for wood working where accuracy is key. The speed square rocked on two edges and had a poor finish to the metal in places. It looks like every speed square is finished differently and it's pot luck as to how 'true' (square) the tool received will be.The elongating rule is a great idea and was straight, providing accurate lines. Shame the whole speed square wasn't built to the same standard.
