Great product
I put one of these on each of my garage doors, connecting them to an Insteon device that watches the switch and reports to my home controller (ISY994i). The switch has a NO (normally open) and a NC (normally closed) dry circuit, so any system should be able to use it. These units are cheap, the Insteon interface is not quite as cheap. I program my home controller to send a text message to us when the garage opens or was left open and we are not in the geo-fence. I can also write a reliable "close the garage door" program by watching for the door to close and stay closed, relying on the electric eye safety system to watch for obstructions.I also activate a chime (X-10) when the door opens so I can unlock the entry door before the wife pounds on it (and me). It also serves as a somewhat deterministic indicator that we have left the house (motion detector in the garage, then door opens, then door closes, no further motion detected) or returned (door opens, motion detected).

Works fine with DSC 18xx series.
This is a basic wired door sensor with an armored flex wire suitable to be mounted as-needed. I installed the magnet on a garage door and the sensor unit to the back of the track with a simple wooden bracket I made from scrap wood. It wired right up to the DSC 1864 exactly as DSC's instructions said a wired zone should, and 'just works'. I'm totally satisfied, and judging by the build quality it will probably last until long after the house falls down.

a top mount is good only if you want to know if the door ...
It makes me cringe hearing people say they mounted this on top of their overhead door: If you have a lock or garage door opener on the door, a top mount is good only if you want to know if the door is opened or closed. It will do nothing for actual break-ins. Thieves will not be able to open the door - they will push in either corner of the door at the bottom. It would be best to have two of these mounted to the floor at each side of the door. These work very well and work with a very large gap. One of my first set of contacts failed after 5 years but still a good buy.

Worked well with my DSC 1832 alarm system
I mounted it on the top middle of my garage door, and it works well. I have it set so that the green light on my control panel will not light without the garage door closed, so I can see at a glance if the door is open or closed (assuming another zone is not open). The downside to this is that the garage door must be closed when I set the alarm, which is a small inconvenience. I can set it remotely via the internet, so that is an option, if I can remember.Installation was easy, the magnet is powerful, and works upside down (on the wrong side of the bracket).

The only way to go when alarming a garage door
A bit pricey but worth it for the high quality metal construction and Honeywell quaility. The switch operates flawlessly and provides for a large two inch air gap if needed. There is another similar garage door contact switch that is cheaper but the switch housing part is made of plastic. For a high traffic area or one that has heavy things moving around the metal housing of this Honeywell version is far superior. For the $5 difference this one is a no brainer...

weatherproof overhead door alarm contacts
I adapted this contact at the top of my garage door instead of on the concrete floor as designed. It works every time with no false alarms. I'm satisfied.

Worked very well with my security system
I ordered this as a security sensor to install on my side gate. It worked very well--used a couple of small lead anchors/screws to fasten the switch to the concrete block, and self-drilling sheet metal screws to attach the magnet bracket to the wrought iron rail. There's at least two feet of flex connected to the switch, with another eight inches of wire from the end of that. More than enough to install to a weatherproof box. I have around an inch and a quarter gap, with no issues at all. I will paint the magnet with outdoor enamel, though, as the sun blasts on it and it likely isn't made quite for that purpose. Great product from a very reputable company.
