This is the so-called "British" version of the film (which was included on the "flipper" DVD a few years ago) which runs about two minutes longer than the final cut and has some alternate takes. Interesting more as an "intellectual exercise" than anything else, but indispensable for those interested in seeing how Hitchcock continued to shape his films after an initial cut. Behind the Story contains these featurettes: Strangers on a Train: A Hitchcock Classic (SD; 36:44) is a nice overview with Peter Bogdanovich and several others discussing the importance of the film in the Hitchcock canon; Strangers on a Train: The Victim's P.O.V. (SD; 7:22) focuses on Kasey Rogers, who performed under the name Laura Elliot in the film; Strangers on a Train: An Appreciation by M. Night Shyamalan (SD; 12:46) has the director espousing his love for Hitch and the film; The Hitchcocks on Hitch (SD; 11:20) features Hitch's daughter and granddaughter talking about Hitch. This includes lots of great home movies; Alfred Hitchcock's Historical Meeting (SD; 1:08) is a weird little snippet without sound that shows Hitch interacting with actors made up as historical characters. Didn't know of this, so got it out of curiosity . What a brilliant film, incredibly well acted, and really holds your'e attention! Plus the added bonus of the very droll Jimmie Stewart. Proof of how good Hitchcock was. Definitely up there with Psycho.

Review of 2 Disc 2004 Warner Bros edition(with orange & white cover)- As this well known film(from 1951) is equally well analysed & described In many other reviews I'll just give an overview of what's on the discs. Disc1 contains the movie in a good looking & sounding print with optional subtitles + French & Italian language versions and has a very good,entertaining commentary with various people talking about the film, book and much else, with the highlight for 'Hitchophiles' being interview segments of director & Hitchcock biographer Peter Bogdanovich questioning the man himself. + a trailer. Disc2 contains the (slightly longer) 'preview version' of the film,(not greatly different from the 'finished article' but still of interest). + a very good 36 min documentary on the film ,a 7 min feature with 'murder victim' Laura Elliot, an 11 min 'Hitchcock family' feature and a 12min appreciation by director/fan M.Night Shyamalan- so all in all a good package of a film that's always worth another viewing,that's currently available at a good prices.

A diabolique and dark noir all set between a train and some neighborhood, with a confrontation that often becomes morally ambiguous and a direction that shows all HItch's talent in building creating suspense and scary scenes with just the right photography or even the perfect cut and juxtaposition of shots (see how he builds the party scene with the progressive introduction of the bad guy in the initially stiff and upperclass situation). Man on a train is about evil and destiny hiding behind the corner, about life changing in a bit because threat is waiting for us, and it's a fantastic example of great storytelling developing a simple yet effective subject: two men meets on a train, and one word too many could change everything. Waiting for the blu ray to comes out, but this Dvd is truly excellent

Loved every minute.the xray screen imformation is so interesting to use.

Atmospheric good Hitchcock movie.

It was an ok movie but the story was a bit lame.

Un grand Hitchcock, toujours très agréable à revoir. Pour les amateurs du genre.

Mit diesem überaus spannenden Werk hat Hitch wieder einmal so etwas wie ein kleines Meisterwerk geschaffen! Extrem dichte Atmosphäre und die Darstellerriege sehr überzeugend. Allen voran Robert Walker, brillant, als der überaus fiese Bruno Anthony! Es beginnt alles bei einer recht scheinbar harmlosen Bahnfahrt das sich aber für den Tennisprofi Guy Haines bald ändern sollte. Hier lernt Guy den seltsamen Fremden namens Bruno kennen. Im Laufe des Gespräches schlägt dieser ihm dann eine so absurde Mordtheorie vor, das es Guy zunächst für einen Scherz hält. Als dieser Fremde dann mit seinen Ausführungen auch noch immer konkreter wird u. sogar Guys Ehefrau sowie seinen eigenen Vater als Mordmotiv benutzt,velässt Guy angewidert das Zugabteil. Nichts ahnend was ihn da aber von nun an noch extrem Unangenehmes bevorstehen würde. Der Teufelskreis nimmt von jetzt seinen Lauf. Versehentlich vergißt Guy beim Verlassen des Abteils auch noch sein Feuerzeug, das später noch eine bedeutende Rolle spielen sollte! Derweilen stellt Bruno Guys Ehefrau auf dem Rummelplatz nach u. tötet diese brutal nach einer Bootsfahrt. Als erster gerät sofort Guy unter Verdacht. Doch wohin sich Guy auch begibt,der mysteriöse Fremde ist stets wie ein Schatten immer in seiner Nähe.Unverschämt dreist platzt dieser auch noch so einfach in einen Empfang des Senators u. stiftet dort nur Unruhe u. benimmt sich ausserdem auch noch sehr hyperaktiv! Dabei benimmt er sich zuweilen so auffällig das jetzt sogar Guys Freundin diesen Fiesling langsam durschaut. Von jetzt an sind sie sich sicher das dieser Bruno wahnsinnig sein muß. Jetzt sind sie auch beide davon überzeugt das Bruno Guys Ehefrau ermordet hat! Doch nichts ahnend wird nun der Jäger selbst zum Gejagten. Die Polizei ist ihm schon ganz dicht auf den Fersen. Schließlich kommt es dann auf dem Rummelplatz zum dramatischen Schowdown. Hierbei kommt es dann unter dem fahrenden Karussell zur tödlichen Auseinandersetzung zwischen Guy u. Bruno wobei schließlich dann letzterer ums Leben kommt! Hitchcock schuf auch hier wieder einmal ein wahres Meisterwerk! Dabei setzen hier die drei Hauptdarsteller diese überaus spannende Story auch wirklich exzellent um! Auch noch lobenswert wäre da die sehr gute Bild u. Tonqualität! Hervorzuheben wäre auf jeden Fall, das es sich hier um eine Doppel DVD handelt die es in sich hat! Überreichliches Angebot an Zusatzmaterial! Obendrein die orig. Preview Fassung, sowie wahlweise die deutsche u.engl.Fassung! Mehr geht wirklich nicht! Schon das allein rendiert zum Kauf! Also wer diesen hervorragenden Klassiker noch nicht kennen sollte,sollte sich den unbedingt zulegen! Lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, zumal auch der Preis dieser Doppel DVD einfach unschlagbar ist! Dieser ungemein spannende Hitchcock Klassiker gehört unbedingt in jede Sammlung! Also bitte kaufen!

Un très bon polar de hitchcock.

Magnifica película, excepcional calidad de vídeo (4,5/5) y audio que cumple. Muchos extras, de hecho trae los mismos que la edición USA, por una vez no se han quedado por el camino al cruzar el charco. Incluye entre los extras la versión de la película (en calidad SD y V.O.S.) llamada "Strangers on a Train Preview Version", también llamada "Versión Inglesa" que dura un par de minutos mas y lleva algunas tomas alternativas. Y ademas sale a un muy buen precio, incluso mas barata que en USA. La pega la de siempre, la maldita manía de Warner de no subtitular los audiocomentarios, por lo demás 100% recomendable en todos los sentidos, esta vez Warner merece mi aplauso.

Ce film de Alfred Hitchcock est plein de suspens jusqu'au dernier instant . Le dvd est en parfait état et les images très belles , le son est un peu "faiblard" parfois mais il suffit d'augmenter le volume .
