Works Perfectly - Under the correct conditions!
This products works perfectly BUT you have to be in a pretty specific set of circumstances for this to work with your surround sound set up.I bought a home theatre system(HTS) that has no HDMI or Optical inputs, as a result it would take a stereo input and convert that into surround using Prologic, software that imitates surround sound. it worked fine but not perfectly. While my HTS did not have a optical or HDMI it DID have 6 rca channels for each indivudual speaker in the 5.1 set up, so i bought this in hopes of being able to skip the simulated surround and expereince TRUE 5.1 surround as it was meant to be, and for that purpose it worked!Set up:1. Make sure your TV has DTS enabled on output or else it won't be true surround2. Use this ONLY if you have a volume option on your HTS, this allows me to control the volume easily, this is a big complaint i see in other reviews.3.if you are NOT using a HTS and you are using a receiver connected to speakers then you have to connect this device to an amplifier before the receiver, if you are using a basic pre made HTS like i am its much easier since the amp is installed with the sub in the central unit.(4) make sure the content you are using is actually 5.1 surround, all prime, disney, netflix movies and shows should be 5.1 surround. One final note is that the setup for me was a little strange, i had to set the DAC device here to 5.1 but my HTS to 2.1, it is outputting in true 5.1 but if i have 5.1 enabled it tries to force Prologic on the already perfect sound and fails. This may be a problem for you so be careful. All in all, I'm very happy with this, the HTS im using with is is the Auna Areal 653 if you want some reference to this revue and your own device.

Update - unreliable and frustrating
Update:After a couple of weeks of fiddling with cables and settings on the TV I gave up on it. Apart from the volume issue, It required constant resetting as the audio would stop or become delayed, stuttery and gappy. This is on a Samsung 4k TV. Now gathering dust.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Worked just fine. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is...I just bought a nice new Samsung 4K TV and, unlike my previous model, this does not have analogue outputs for the sound channels - only HDMI and optical. I have only previously used standard stereo amplifiers to drive my surround speakers, and don't yet want to have to shell out for a brand new 4K UHD AV amp (£££!). This device bridges the gap - except for the fact that I can't now control the volume from the TV remote and have to adjust the volume of the front/centre/sub/rear speakers independently. This would be a blinder of a little device if it had a volume control remote as well - I would give it 5+ stars then!I am still looking for the perfect device for this application...

works ok---till now
I have only used this occasionaly in a spare room, I needed to test it with a 5.1 set of speakers I bought for a computer ( long gone) . Using an ancient mp3 sound the unit worked great , giving a good spacial effect BUT as luck would have it 10 days after returns guarantee, it doesnt work. It powers up but when I select input, (the 3.5mm jack plug), the lights do not change . I have a 1 led then 4 led flash repeating, unable to change.

Don't bother, doesn't last 5 minutes
Bought this as it was the only option for a 5.1 decoder. Worked okay at first, the sound was okay (albeit not a good as a proper system). After a couple of uses, however, it stopped working altogether and didn't turn on. I tried another power supply to see if the painfully cheap one it comes with was to blame but nothing. There's no power button on the device so I don't know what the criteria are for turning it on but it no longer does it, I tried everything. Also, it uses superbright LEDs which are completely inappropriate as it shines a bright blue dot on the wall instead of just being a notification LED, very poor design.

Specialist kit - know what you are getting before you pyrchase!
I have a Samsung Smart TV with TOSLINK optical Out, a Blu-ray player with TOSLINK optical Out, and a mini PC with stereo RCA output. All three of these are connected to the Southsky DAC and RCA outputs into my rather aged analogue 5:1 amplifier with RCA inputs. The result is very good - the decoding is accurate and without perceptible delay. HOWEVER, looking at previous reviews, I would recommend that the Purchaser understands exactly what they are getting - this is neither for audiophiles who will invariably find fault with anything short of gold-plated connections, nor beginners who may be under the misapprehension that this will be the answer to no surround sound amplification. If anybody is interested, my baggy old amp is a Fidek AV 615 - it is discontinued, but you can pick them up for £30 or so - used in conjunction with the DAC it is a very economical surround sound solution, providing you have enough 8ohm speakers! Note that this unit has no video inputs or outputs and no remote control - be prepared to provide a small 'mask' over the front panel as LED's are very bright! A power on switch would also be welcome on the rear panel, although that may be a bridge too far for
