The Package

My first time
And I was not disappointed!!!! This author is moving up to Harlan Coben status for me. The twists and turns that all seemed to come together like a tightly wrapped package (see what I did there?) was amazing! I can't wait to read another book by Mr. Fitzek.

The Package
This is typical Fitzek... It's gritty and brutal and doesn't pull its punches. It's also completely over the top and rather implausible.Dr Emma Stein is at a conference in a hotel delivering a paper on her specialism of psychiatry. It's on a rather controversial topic and she is rightly nervous but manages to get through it mostly unscathed. Despite the conference being in her home city, with her husband away she decides to take up the offer of an overnight stay in the hotel. A decision that pretty soon she will come to regret. We then flit about in time, back to when she was a child, the days after that night and the present, as our story meanders along, delivering shock after shock, brutal twists aplenty, secrets, lies and quite a healthy slice of dysfunctional behaviour. Emma is one of the most complex and strangest characters I have met in time. She's a bit wet in places but she's obviously been through a bit (lot) of an ordeal and, a bit like a car crash, it's hard to look away as she spirals out of her mind...Although a bit on the bonkers and larger than life implausible side, I actually really enjoyed reading this book. I might be a little biased as I do love all things Fitzek but it held my attention nicely throughout and spat me out at the end mostly satisfied.

Promised more than it delivered.
I bought this book after reading a rave review, sadly I didn't agree with the hype.
