Insight into a dystopia future through the lens of the Covid pandemic
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Well written, great characters and enough detail to make things really plausible. It wouldn't take much to take us down this path.In short, a great tale, well written

What would you do….?
A thoroughly good read that was especially poignant given the Covid pandemic and the potential for it to happen again. The characters are well-crafted and their reactions to events are believable. Evident that the author has drawn on experience of dealing with people and their sometimes irrational behaviours when the norms of society are compromised. The book is worth taking the time to read and invest both financially and emotionally. Looking forward to the next work by the author.

A well written and engaging read
I picked this book up with no preconceptions and was engaged from the start. Having been through a global lockdown it was an excellent take on how things can take on a life of their own. Brilliant Guy, many thanks

I couldn’t put it down!
I got recommend this book by a friend, and I was hesitant at first. I read the first chapter and instantly I was captivated. I smashed through in under two days. Great plot, characters you can believe in and a fantastic storyline. Definitely not looking forward to another Covid lockdown! Can’t wait for his next book.

Good read 👍
This book was a really easy read and was an interesting take on Covid times. Well written and clearly drawing on the writers own experiences, I enjoyed being taken to Scotland and its islands.

What could have been
This book seems somewhat of a referendum on the Covid-19 pandemic, and in so many ways - though it’s not based in the USA where I’m based - it’s what could have been in any organized society, had things not been reigned in and human logic and genuine care not employed. It speaks to governmental oppression, suspicion, cynicism, and the gnawing sense of distrust that things like our own pandemic bred. It sort of reads somewhat like “28 Days Later” or “I am Legend” in that the protagonist and his partner are forced to hole up, make hard choices, hunt, kill, and do whatever they can to survive and fend off the ever-present danger, even though they get help along the way from fellow survivors. There’s inevitable conflict and bloodshed in those choices, always. Thus the title. Robin goes in-depth to drill down to the minutiae of what Peter (the protagonist) has to do to prepare, endure and survive, and you get a good sense of how resolute he has become by the end of the book (without losing his personality; some books do that), the catalyst being his experiencing great loss (without giving away spoilers). The author is clearly very knowledgeable about weapons, munitions, tools, etc., and I found that produced a level of verisimilitude that seems lacking in similar books. There’s also a LOT of realistic dialogue, which is hard to master. Overall, I enjoyed the read.

Potential is real ....
"It has been said that civilization is 24 hours and two meals away from barbarism"I forget who this quote is from but it was the first thing I thought of when I was reading this engaging novel.I'm in the US and had first-hand experience for 3 weeks after Hurricane Katrina took out the levee system in New Orleans in 2005, so this was an interesting take on a similar breakdown of society after a major 'alteration of the norms'.Author obviously did his research with location and setting and evidently speaks from personal knowledge of the area.Knowledge of firearms is accurate and the situation develops in a realistic way with a few surprises along the way. (No spoilers here!).A worthwhile read and a great start for this author. My only criticism is that it had the legs to be longer as there was sufficient material to add to the story.I gather there is more in the pipeline from him so will keep an eager eye out for it.
