Design change looks more sturdy - after warranty replacement
Ordered 3 months ago, and like others, the hose connector fell off after 4 uses. Went to mfg site and ordered warranty replacement (no cost, free shipping). The new item has a much improved connector fitting that should help durability problems.

WILL rust if you leave water inside after using it.
I have two of these and the concept and use is great. It beats a spiked base. Unfortunately the inside of the metal pipe will rust easily if you leave water inside after using it. To make it last for years, just drain the water inside the pipe and don't leave it on the wet grass overnight. Remove the hose and turn it until all the water is out of it and store it out of the wet grass with the opening downward to drain any water. I use a plastic Rain Bird impact sprinkler and its awesome and has lasted several years. Sometimes when the water pressure is at its max, I have to put a brick on it to keep it from moving out of the precise space I have it in. The part that got damaged next was the female thread where you connect your hose. The grooves are off due to my fault after a lot of use and misalignment. You can make a square version of this out of copper or galvanized pipe.

Good base for impulse sprinkler, but ...
Good bas,e for impulse sprinkler, replaced a very old one that had rusted out. Only problem is that the sprinkler head is not perfectly vertical, but about 5-10 degrees off, so sprinkler does not cover an even circle.

Lip on 90 doesn’t allow room to install rainbird sprinkler
Older bases didn’t have the lip around the 90 that won’t allow rainbird sprinkler to be installed. I had to use a Dremel to grind off the lip to allow room for the sprinkler to fully tighten into the base. Nice lightweight base, just didn’t like the fact I had to alter it to make it work.

Decent quality + fair price = good value!
I purchased this item to use with the Irrigator Pro 525023 Whisper Sprinkler Head I also purchased here at Amazon. I have used this base for about 3 hours on average every week for the past month and the duo works so well I purchased a second set. The head screws into the top of the base while a hose goes into the bottom. I had wanted a base made out of metal as I’ve had to grapple with plastic sprinkler heads before that sometimes move if there is enough water pressure, plus I believed that metal would be more durable. I also really liked the simplistic design of this base which I figured would make it more failure-proof. The relatively inexpensive price point was also much appreciated. The only downside of this item is the rust factor, which other reviewers have already pointed out. Despite my best efforts to clear out the water from this base after each use, I nonetheless end up with rusty water pouring out of it the next time it is used. I suppose I could ensure complete evacuation of water from it with the sprinkler head removed. Unfortunately the sprinkler head I use with it is made out of plastic whose threads probably would not withstand repeated screwing and unscrewing from the base. So I forgo detaching the head and just deal with the occasional rusty discharge from this base now and then. I’d imagine it would take quite a while for the unit to rust out enough to become useless anyway, but even if it did, it is inexpensive enough to replace.

Won’t last.
Rusty water leaked out after the first use and I’m lazy so I won’t go out and drain the thing after every use.

For the money pretty pleased with it
I am very fond of this base. It does exactly as it suppose to do. I'll hook up to a hose and accomodate various types of sprinkler heads. I really don't mind emptying out the water each time to avoid it from rusting and if that is the only problem with it I'll call that good. I mean for the price what else you gonna buy? As far as it being stable it is plenty stable for the medal RainBird impact sprinkler. I haven't noticed it move on me yet.overall very pleased that Orbit makes it as I was finding it very difficult to find a base without having to pay an arm and a leg. I do think though that you should probably try to keep it put up as I could see one or the other end rusting out if not kept dry. Don't know that for sure but the medal is light weight and it is steel so you do the math.

Simple and effective
I managed to break the plastic base on my sprinkler and needed a new one. I checked the box stores and they only had other plastic units. I bought this sprinkler base and transferred the brass head from my old unit. It works great! I've read several reviews saying they are prone to rusting from the inside and it seems like pretty thin metal, so I always disconnect it when I'm finished watering and drain out the water inside to hopefully make it last a while.
