This is my favorite shower soap. Dr. Bronner's is, for all intents and purposes, a coconut oil soap which hasn't been skimmed off the glycerin which separates during the soapmaking process. As a coconut oil soap, it produces a very light foamy lather which cleans and rinses very easily with no residue. But unlike some coconut oil soaps, the retained glycerin in Dr. Bronner's leaves your skin feeling soft and hydrated rather than dry and tight.There are other oils in Dr. Bronner's, but not in quantities that really matter. I'm a big fan of hemp products, but there doesn't seem to be any particular reason to use hemp oil in soaps. For soapmaking, chain length is the key variable for how different fatty acids perform, not the particular double-bond locations which make the essential fatty acids in hemp oil so nutritious in foods. Coconut oil features shorter chain lengths than most other oils, and that's what makes it perform differently in soaps than longer chain fatty acids like stearic acid (which makes a denser creamier lather).Some people claim that this is a great multi-purpose soap. I disagree. This soap is a great body wash. But it just doesn't have the properties that characterize a good shampoo or shave soap (for my fellow wetshavers out there). This soap will dry out your scalp if you use it as a shampoo, and the very light airy lather is pretty terrible for shaving. However, it works well as a pre-shave soap to wash and rinse with hot water before shaving.I've only used the peppermint fragrance. It's great in the morning or after a workout. Very invigorating. As a man, I find it an appropriately masculine scent, and the cooling sensation is nice on the, um, male area of the body.

At the beginning of 2013, I decided I was going to clean up my act and start going natural. After looking up multiple soaps on GoodGuide.com, I found this gem on the site and was intrigued. 18 uses in one, for a cheap price? Can't be true! Oh, yes it can be. After seeing how highly rated it was on GoodGuide, I checked it out on Amazon and the same thing, great ratings. I looked at the reviews and after spending about 30 minutes reading all the things you can do with it, I decided to buy. I ended up buying the Peppermint soap because it was offered Prime and I love it! It smells so fresh and wonderful. I have only personally used this product for shampoo, body wash, and as a hand soap but there are so many other uses for it and I'm excited to use it for everything! My boyfriend has started using it as a shampoo and we both use it as a body wash. I just diluted it (1 part soap to 10 parts water) and it works like a charm. It smells wonderful when it first comes out but the smell doesn't linger after you're done and out of the shower. It does not "sud" like a normal shampoo or body wash would but that's a good thing; it means it is natural and doesn't have chemicals to make it do so! I am hooked on this soap and can't wait to find out what else I can use it for. Because you dilute this product with water it makes it that much more affordable. And, like I've already said, you can read reviews to find out what else you can use it for so it is versatile as well. I have a feeling this bottle will last me a very long time and I look forward to purchasing more; maybe in different scents. Great product and I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone.
